Post by RSVI » Sun Jan 06, 2019 8:13 pm

Anyone else suffer(ed) with the front centre speaker, on the dash below windscreen distorting/vibration when music up loud?

Taken apart but not really studied properly yet... still vibrating when playing high volume music.

TIA

Yes...standard A6 build. It wasn’t sorted at the factory until sometime after 2015 facelift. Take it to dealer they’ll sort on warranty.

Or just disconnect it and enjoy the huge improvement in sound and stereo imagery.

Serious. I couldn't stand how all the focus was in the centre and distracted from the stereo imagery. And it is an awful speaker. So I disconnected and it sounds so much better now. Not sure why they thought stereo music should be mainly coming from a centre channel!?! I understand if watching a DVD you'd want the focus to be the centre channel for dialogue but not when listening to music.

Update- I didn’t disconnect the speaker, but instead removed the cover/grill, then laid it back in place without pushing in to enable the clips.
It’s slightly raised now, so not as flush, but the vibration has gone without loosing a speaker.

Happy

Does anyone have any ideas on how to disconnect the speaker? Can we just pull a fuse, or do you need to take the unit out?

Speakers don't have fuses. Just unplug the speaker itself.

The trim is just held in with plastic clips. If you have any trim removal tools take the thinnest one and wedge it into the edge closest to you and lift the trim out. If you don't have trim removal tools then maybe something like a screwdriver with a rag over the end to protect the dash will do.
Once the trim is off, the speaker is held down with 2 screws (either tor or allen key, can't remember). As the isn't much height due to the windscreen I used a little socket set with the right bit to loosen it then just twisted the bit with my fingers to completely remove the screws. Probably takes longer to type this all up and read it then actually do it.
