If the gearbox jolts, there is a software update which fixes. I had it done after two occasions of sudden lurch forward after stopping at traffic lights after 30 min drive and it sorted it out, made gearbox a lot better. good way to tell if it's had it done is nose down a slope, select reverse, if the car rolls forward briefly (I.e makes you feel a bit uncomfortable) before moving backwards, then it's the crappy software.
Is the symptom of it rolling forwards slightly on a downhill slope only when cold or all the time?
My drive faces downwards gently and I have noticied this when I have just started the car usually from cold, engaged reverse and even though I have moved my foot from the brake to the throttle, it rolls forwards slightly before the drive it taken up. It has hill hold assist - it's as if the gearbox hadn't kept up with the auto release of the handbrake. Agree, it's slightly unnerving, especially if you are near to a wall!
It must be worth mentioning it to my dealer - is it a well documented issue, i.e will they be able to find the TPI relatively easily do you think?

Car has just been picked up by dealer to be looked at.

They think they know what is causing the warning light to come on and when I said about new software for the DSG box, they also acknowledged that and said yes there is a newer software available which should cure that, apparently SQ5's suffer from it badly.

Thanks very much everyone for your help. It has been gone an hour and I already miss it!!
Reading about the software issue for the gearbox relative to my above post, can you let us know the result? Does it feel any different?
I would be particularly interested what it states on your invoice about the update and whether there is a coding on there which may assist me if I go my dealer?

Congrats on the car (missing it after an hour, I know how you feel) yes it is the car you should of bought but now you have it....enjoy it! Yep I can identify with the jolt, had it on Q5 3.0tdi, S4 B8.5, SQ5 and also sometimes on RS4 B8.5. Sometimes I find when selecting to D on first start of the day and occasionally others that it's stiff and jerks slightly when engaging. This as mentioned by others just needs the update. Going to dealer 1st June for new DRC shocks and re-gassing plus panoramic issue! Thank goodness for warranties!!!!!

Jonny, I can't exactly remember as had software done last year, it wasn't the rolling that was the issue it was a sudden thud and shunt after stopping at traffic lights which happened twice in a month. i have to do a 3 point turn when I come home (when car was warm I suppose) as live on a narrow lane and rolling stopped after it was done- which was an unexpected win

Ok, thanks for that. I might just approach my local Audi garage and see if they are aware of any other cars with the same symptoms, or failing that do some more research before I take it any further.

So after spending 24 hours back with Fontain and almost 100 miles no faults could be found. They could not get the warning light to come on and there was nothing in the log about any faults. They found the bulletin for the gearbox and updated that, it does seem much better.

Had the car back a week and all fine, used it a fair amount over the weekend, not at all on Monday. Fired up on Tuesday, low and behold there was the warning light again. Continued driving all fine.

When driving off I started to think about what could be triggering it and I believe it could be the sports exhaust. On Sunday when I last drove the car I had it in Individual with Sports Exhaust in Dynamic. I have noticed that if in Dynamic or Individual when started the car is never in "loud" mode. You have to manually change on to comfort and then back in to Dynamic or Individual. So I suddenly thought, is the cold start in Dynamic/Individual mode causing the issue. To test I drove around yesterday in Individual (such a great noise!) turned the car off when finished with it. Jumped in this morning, started up (so still in Individual) and as if on cue, bing! there comes the light. Going to give it another test tomorrow to see if it does the same thing but it is almost as if the car is struggling to open the valves on cold so is throwing up the warning.

Any one had any similar experiences?

Does Fontain have an in house mechanic or do they use Autopool?

I've enquired on a few cars with Fontain, always have good examples but always a grand or two more than others. David at Fontain said that they always pre-check and have issues sorted before sold and that explains the premium! If your not entirely happy with Fontain ask for the premium back? Clearly this car has issue, I play with the sports exhaust settings and never seen this message!

I don't know who they use. Apparently they have an Audi Master Tech and are an authorised Audi Service Centre. They carried out last service and it is all registered with Audi on their database etc.

Fired the car up today in Individual mode and no problem at all so all fine. No idea what the issue is. So annoying as it is intermittent and there are no logs.

I'd be very surprised if nothing was logged in the fault code memory. Where about in the country are you, perhaps someone with VCDS could run a check?

Hi nf2029. Nice motor. It could be that you need a new coolant pump and thermostat with housing. I had similar. If you drive with the engine oil showing (lap timer mode on central display) you may see the oil temp rising. Mine kept rising to about 118 and then the yellow light came on. Had the above works done and no issues since. There were no error codes showing oddly. Hope that helps.

If it was coding added by previous owner surely it would come up every time the engine is started? I can't help but feel that sometimes at traffic lights it feels as if it is running quite "lumpy" the gearbox also can jolt quite suddenly when auto shifting down when approaching standstill. Not sure if these are normal characteristics or not...
Congrats on the new car. Get the Gearbox software done asap. If that doesn't fix it it is a very expensive repair for a new servtronics / mechtronics for the DSG. Had it done on my last B8 and with Audi footing 60% of the cost it was still a £2k bill

Going to get the software on mine done now. It rolls sometimes on my driveway when in reverse

I let the car cool down completely from my drive earlier, started it up again tonight, no warning light. Seems like a computer or sensor fault. Need to get it on diagnostics. It had a major service before handover so surprised nothing was flagged up.
Hi
Did you ever get to the bottom of why the yellow rev limiter light came on? Curious to know if you solved it and what it was.
Cheers
