hi, just bought an rs4 b5 on a 2000 x reg and as this is my first vag i need a little help please.
1. the tick over sometimes miss's a little and so i thought i would use a vag com to find the problem, but i have been told that the vag com won't work on my car is this true?
2. when i change gear(any gear) i get a slight thump from the back of the car (like the rear diff is moving) any common fault i should look for?
3. when does this big grin go away?

Hi saf, good to see you on here finally! r33 v-spec on the GTR board
VAG-COM should work, maybe to do with the lead.
As people have said clunk is quite normal, and you soon adapt to it, and make it less!

By 'misses' you mean misfires slightly? Mine does this on idle, I get the occasional shiver felt through the car and the idle slightly wobbles between 750 and 800 rpm. Had new plugs at MRC in July but does not seem to have cured it. Are you sure it's nothing to worry about - I keep reading on here about worn camshafts and misfires being a sign of this???Jarv wrote:Mine misses on idle, I asked Doug about it last time I was at MRC and apparently they all do it,

As long as its a genuine VAG-COM USB cable, it can be used on the B5
You can log realtime misfires on idle, by opening blocks 15 (Cylinders 1-3) + 16 (Cylinders 4-6) in VAG-COM's "Measuring Blocks".
Mines does sporadically also, and I've done loads of maintenance to the engine.

I'm not convinced the V-Power up here is up to scratch, but I may try a tank in the near future and see if I notice any idling differences then.mikeyquattro wrote:I also found the idle on my camper was smoother on V powermbelle wrote:Rubbish!mikeyquattro wrote:My idle is smoother with V power, than it is with Tesco 99
You must be using Tesco 97...
