That makes it clearer, Thanks

So Leon would need to get his tubulars modified rather than sell and get a new set if he wanted to go full RS6

My understanding was the downpipes were the problem, so they would need a new flange on them if RS6 turbo's where used, or, larger downpipes and made to fit the exhaust.

Yeah - I knew the flange on the downpipes would need changing, but this is not a huge problem.

I had a full custom exhaust made up by RS Fabrications... the fact that Doug has the exact same setup put on his car says it all. Its awesome. I hope that RS6 turbos will bolt onto my tubular manifolds.

Where is MRC... they can answer all of these questions.

Do Garretts? And what happens when you have a boost leak? Bearings go kaboom and that's it, buy a pair of new CHRA's. That's the only one thing I'm scared of with Garretts. They have been known for not being reliable at all when pushed past their max, as for instance when you have a boost leak.

So what brand do you recommend if Garretts are unreliable and KKKs are hairdryers? :)
2001 Silver S4 Avant
AmD remap, APR R1 DVs, APR bipipe, Full Miltek exhaust
H&R coilovers, AWE DTS, Porsche front brakes, Short-shifter, 18" RS4 replicas
Defi-HUD boost gauge / turbo-timer (with afterrun pump modification), Phatbox

The KKK thing was humour, although K04s are still relatively small in size (I get 1 bar of boost at 2400 RPM in 6th gear when going WOT at 2000).

IMHO Garrett's aren't very reliable, especially when a hose pops off and you get a leak, and the turbo thus runs a higher pressure ratio than what it was meant to run initially.

In that respect, I'm not very keen on using Garretts...

Why do we never hear to scoobies and evos etc popping turbos? I hear of gradual wear and them needing replacement after a long time... but never bent shafts etc? Is it simply that they are larger single turbos? Rather than the bi-turbo engines with these peepee little turbos?

Bent shafts? that doesn't happen on KKK's very often either... at least not on K04s... what happened to Rich is probably due to the car bottoming out IMHO, not a representative example of what happens to all K04 turbos...

Does the larger single turbo being more reliable theory also stand for the S2/RS2 turbos?

Getting there ...

KO4's sent off to America for the KO4/RS6 Hybrid treatment ...

MRC FMIC/injectors and fuel pump on there way.

I am also going to get my current manifolds ported/polished and coated.

Lets see what power MRC can get out of my car after all is installed ... 8)
