Oil cooler DIY
Re: Oil cooler DIY
Might be a pain to sort now but i put back to back steel fittings on to the oil cooler with my own made pipes,
The reason i done this is so i will never have to undo the steel fitting from the aluminium cooler again, just undo the steel pipe fitting from the steel fitting so shouldn't corroded, if the makes any sence at all

Re: Oil cooler DIY
#2 for setrab oil coolers . Get steel fittings like mentioned above . Done it on my B5 RS4 . Same problems of corroded fittings/pipes . 1/3rd of price of oem . Ironic really as they are oem supplier of oil cooler on the B5 .

Re: Oil cooler DIY
As Cov says, it's a pretty straightforward job that shouldn't take long. In fact, taking the bumper on and off is the most difficult bit (especially if it's just you). Take some care when removing/refitting the hoses from the engine. The bolts didn't inspire me with much confidence, I think they would be very easy to overtighten and strip. Also, make sure you lightly lube up (ahemm) the seals before fitting the new hoses. If you pinch and damage the o-ring they cost something like £25 each!
A definite +1 on the wax oil, that should keep moisture out of the joint.

Re: Oil cooler DIY
jonytek - I did a sort of pictorial type thread a couple of years back on here when I changed my cooler that might be some help. Can't find the link though, sorry. It'll be something like 'replacing the oil cooler' I expect

Misano Red B7 RS4 Avant. 20" Rotors. KW adjustable spring kit. 8 & 10mm H&R spacers. MRC Stage 2 remap. Pre-cat delete & x-pipe.
Re: Oil cooler DIY
Now need to dump the oil from the whole motor just collect what drains from the cooler. When you take the unions of the engine block you'll only get the tiniest amount come out. When refitted just run for 10-20 seconds at idle initially then refill what you lost from the cooler. No more than a couple of litres at a guess

Re: Oil cooler DIY
All done. It was much easier than I thought. Whole job took around 3 hours. Still got the old cooler if anyone wants it, I haven't removed the pipes.

You'll need the lines also which were around 327 and then the labor quoted for fitting.RS4JAY wrote: ↑Sun Dec 31, 2017 8:48 amPrice wise does that not work out about the same as a new forge or OEM cooler at £721?
