Gearbox service kit
Gearbox service kit
Does anyone know where to get the gearbox filter and oil in the UK? someone put a link a while ago but I can not find it only Matts for Autodoc. Brutus is making some strange noises when in park and neutral like a cavitating sound. I remember Footlong saying the gearbox started playing up after the last oil and filter change. I'm wondering if they fitted the wrong filter or didn't fill it up correctly. I will just change filter and oil myself to see it it helps.
Avus Avant, RNS-E mk2 with sds and Bluetooth, Milltek, Hotchkis, Bilstein, Forge, ITG, A.C.E, Wagner, FBMFSW, MTM.

Hi Paul
ZF make a couple of different service kits for this gearbox. I’d dig around on the internet for info or send an email to service/support at ZF. They should be able to point you in the direction of a local dealer

Yeah, the right one and the wrong one.
This is the right one, in the UK:

And I always found I needed a bit extra (I wrote it in the original DIY I think):

Re: Gearbox service kit
In the end, Audi dealers were my last port of call, and when I had to use them, I just gave them the part no. I used ifinterface, which I always found superbly reliable, including stock status. ie if it said NLA, it certainly was. If it said the part was available, then there was usually a part somewhere in the network even if I needed to wait a while.
I had a fairly decent list of alternate sources (often autodoc or ecp, but with a named manufacturer) that I had worked out when I owned mine. Examples I remember that saved a lot of money for OE or OE quality bits:
* Master Cylinder - TRW one, bought from ECP (Same as OE)
* Front Lower Arms - could see where the audi logo had been ground off.

* Cam adjusters - autodoc, looked a lot like they came out of the same factory as OEM.
In all cases they were half price or less than OEM - and often OEM was NLA anyway. Don't believe the BS that OEM parts are better - how many of the OEM bits on these cars have to be thrown out because they were not fit for purpose (bufkin pipe, anyone?). Make your own decision about what constitutes quality, it's not hard to improve on audi quality in many areas.

Re: Gearbox service kit
Changed gearbox oil and filter and now gearbox appears to work fine no noises or slipping. I dont know what garage Footers used to change it last time but they cocked up. No O ring on the filter and not enough oil. I drained 4.5 litres but it took just under 7 litres to refill.
