Oil pump one way valve

Hope there was no damage.
Had the car running most of the day Sunday with the subframe off oil temps at 95 degrees no oil seems to be leaking now. Finished it off today along with a new air con rad all seems well.
I will run it for a month see how it is, last check it did 500 miles and had leaked about half a litre into the right intercooler.

Little press in the rear bumper, bit of heat gun work and pressing from the inside should sort it.
OTOH, the pump is ramping up costs. I did the shaft seals some time back but never went into the water pump - looks like somebody has been there before me, there's a small piece snapped off one of the impeller blades. It's never given me any sort of cooling problem so I could leave it but as it'll play on my mind I'm putting a new one in there. So that'll be another 700 quid.

If I have to wait a few days for parts with the pump in bits I don't really care.

Due to <reasons> it's been more than a few days but eventually today I stripped and rebuilt the pump. There are two non-return valves - the one in the turbo extract section had a slightly weak spring but the one deeper into the pump was completely wrecked. As I can't go any further until a water pump appears I might waste some time tomorrow cutting the valve open to see the damage.
There are a lot of parts in these pumps....

I do like a bit of forensics.... in the following the upper valve is the one from the turbo section - note in the second picture that there's a foreign object in the back of the upper valve which I think was interfering with it closing although it could well have got in there from the general debris and mess on my work bench. No idea what it was, sort of fibrous/crystalline, if I'd found it in plumbing I've have assumed that it was limescale. Not the greatest of pics, it's a cheap camera with few manually adjustable settings - and I'm no David Bailey.

Luckily, the designs of the valves and the pump meant that none of the bits and pieces had yet made their way into the main section of the pump otherwise I suspect I'd have been looking at a wrecked engine.

Mind didn't have one either so when I first started trying to deal with the smoke (amazingly, it was 6, yes, SIX years ago) I sourced a used one from Germany. When I offered it up to the car it looked as if the existing screws that were in place would be perfect but they turned out to be just a little short so I hunted through ETKA until I found the part number for some longer ones.

No, it's between two parts of the scavenge section, where the oil is passed out to the oil thermostat.

Back to the drawing board I thought I had cracked it but started about an hour ago and filled the close with smoke, I still am not sure weather it’s the turbos as there is next to no play in the one I checked but any thoughts would be appreciated.

People say "blown turbos" for exhaust smoke in the way as they love to blame ECUs for starting and running problems.
When my car started smoking my turbos were a bit worn so I rebuilt them - new bearings, new seals, the lot, No difference. Fitted new CHRAs - no difference, it still smoked at least once a week, sometimes every day, sometimes more than once a day, so I concluded that it couldn't be the turbos.
Since I finished the rebuild a week ago I've been using mine every day and other than a few whisps of condensation in the mornings it's been clean so far.

Thanks for the info, It’s good news yours has stopped after all this time I hope it keeps behaving.
Im wondering if the other valve further in the pump plays a part in the fault aswell. Mine always seems worse if it’s been out for a long drive, higher oil temps, and sat for 2 to 3 days.
The other thing to try aswell is the updated oil return line.

Right, I've now been using the car with the rebuilt pump for a month (and a few days if you want to be picky) and it hasn't smoked at all.

Oh for the love of..................Do you think its pipework or strut as IIRC pipework is hard to come by now?
