Oil pump one way valve

Just thought I would share some info to help anyone with the same issue.
I’ve had my c6 for coming up to 4 years now and recently have been struggling with smoke on start up. If I drained the inter coolers all would be fine so I figured must just be compressor side oil seals gave up the ghost.
Decided to strip it this weekend but on removal of the turbo return pipe I noticed it was full of oil up to the cartridge, while removing the rest of the pipe I watched as it kept dripping out of the scavenge pump. In a change of direction I removed the oil pump, after watching a vid by Ricky at re performance, and stripped of the scavenge section of the pump to check the non return valve. Managed to then get the valve out, it was not sealing at all. So after not wanting to spend 3 k on a new pump I accidentally stumble across this part 06H103175B, just ordered it hopefully it’s the same. If anyone requires any pics let us know.

LOL, watched the same video and know exactly the part you're talking about. Hope it cures your issue and, as for pics, I'd always recommend sticking a set on here, just incase it helps anyone else.

My car has reduced it's smoking from a James Bond act every time it starts to just occasionally - although this week it's guffed the stuff out twice and it still fills the intercooler hoses. A few weeks back I watched that video and have been idly pondering overhauling the pump too. I have a sneaky suspicion that isn't the same as the scavenge non-return valve but I'd be very happy to be wrong.

Most likely it is.
I had 3 bought from a chap in Germany who makes the gaskets from the oil pump, and they appear identical. Price wise too.

Considering the amount £££ spent and time I've worked on trying to cure my car's smoking habit, if it turns out to be a £30 part I shall be most annoyed.

Got the new valve today hopefully the pictures have gone up to see. I couldn’t believe how worn the old one was.

Are you fitting new gaskets to the whole pump or just at the back of the turbo pump? It looks to me that it'd be possible to replace the valve with the pump in place - not easy, but possible at a push. OK, can't get the cover plate off completely but it could be pulled back to clear the gear shaft and allowed to rotate around the drive shaft cover to give access to the valve.
Anyway, what we now need to know (more specifically, what I need to know) is whether it's cured the start up smoke.

Next plan is to get it built up hopefully this week run it with the sub frame of till hot and leave it over night. I will definitely keep the thread up dated.

Still mulling over trying to do this with the pump in place - how long are the bolts that hold the face plate in place?

From this Russian site it appears they aren't very long.

I don’t think you would be able to get the scavenge section off still mounted, 3 of the bolts are longer going into the main casing.

Hm. So the whole turbo scavenge part has to come off then? Another question - which way does the valve come out? Towards the back plate or forwards towards the main part of the pump?
I ordered a valve today and would like to crack on with the job later next week.
Additional : with a bit of logical thinking (probably a mistake - since when has anything on a RS6 been logical) I concluded this afternoon that it must be forwards towards the pump so that the o-ring on the valve can seal against the body of the scavenge unit. So it looks like there's no short cut, it's pump off. Oh what fun.....

The brass section of the valve faces the rear of the scavenge pump end plate but I removed all of the scavenge pump section to poke it out.

After the embarrassing clouds of smoke that the car blew out yesterday I've had enough, as soon as I get back from some essential chores this morning it'll be on stands and I'll start stripping off the pump. If I have to wait a few days for parts with the pump in bits I don't really care.
First step should include "Don't reverse the car into the house wall"
