Battery Removal
Battery Removal
I've searched for this and haven't found anywhere which details how to remove the battery. Looking at the engine bay, I'm guessing that it's a case of removing the trim that covers the gap between the engine bay and the windscreen where the battery sits. On cursory inspection it looks like there is too much pipe work either side of the battery to be able to slide it out sideways and it obviously won't come straight out.
Can anyone confirm if the battery can be slid out to the passenger side?

RE: Battery Removal
Take off the rubber seal that goes between the bonnet gas struts. The whole platic trim should pull away from the windscreen and you will have access to the battery. There's probably a clamp on the base of the battery that you need to undo.

There are also a couple of plastic 1/4 turn screws that hold this panel tight into the winscreen. As Phil says there is a clamp on the battery 13mm socket required to remove that.
RE: Battery Removal
Not sure you need to touch those.... If you do, be _very_ careful taht you don't wreck them when you turn them. There are also a couple of plastic 1/4 turn screws that hold this panel tight into the winscreen.

Yeah, I noticed that the heads of the screws on that panel were torn to shreds - I could just get enough purchase to turn them and release the panel. Got the battery in now so cheers

RE: Battery Removal
Do you need to put one of those devices in the cigar lighter to ensure continuity of power?
RE: Battery Removal
I had no problems with anything, just diconnected the old one, then put in the new (about 10 minutes between disconnect and reconnect).

RE: Battery Removal
That's odd. Because I had to enter my SATNAV+ code.
I was probably longer than 10 mins before I reconnected though.

RE: Battery Removal
Not sure as I don't have Nav+ so it may be different?

RE: Battery Removal
Usually have to put in radio code, I only had my battery off for a couple of minutes to check something and it wiped the radio.... again not sure about sat Nav as I dont have in dash version.

battery hell
yep changed mine - if the passenger sun visor is pulled down the courtesy light stays on - thus 3 weeks away kills battery - and wipes all codes - the trim is attacked by plastic screws which are destroyed when using a screwdriver - joy - and you'll discover the air con filter on your way - which again is dirty - thus servicing is suspect - a complete pain - beware the sun visor

Yeah I noticed my pollen filter was filthy too. Which made me suspicious about when it was last changed!matcook2005 wrote:yep changed mine - if the passenger sun visor is pulled down the courtesy light stays on - thus 3 weeks away kills battery - and wipes all codes - the trim is attacked by plastic screws which are destroyed when using a screwdriver - joy - and you'll discover the air con filter on your way - which again is dirty - thus servicing is suspect - a complete pain - beware the sun visor
I went for a bigger battery top Bosch one (can't rember the spec) as it had better cold start cranking came with a 4 year warrany and was £30, cheaper i.e. £65 and was a straight fit right down to the little vent hose.
