Oil Service Tomfoolery

Post by ronaldmacdonald2017 » Mon Nov 20, 2017 6:34 pm

Can anyone tell me if the oil drain plugs are anything special over and above a bog standard A6? Dealer seems to be struggling after 2 days with the car to get the right parts for the oil change. And yes thats right - I did say dealer who had it on the schedule 4 weeks in advance.

The fact the engine has a dry sump it is different to a standard A6, if my memory serves me right there are three drain points. It's either o-rings or copper washers but nothing special.

It's 4 drain points, 1 in the thermostat and 3 others in the various bit of pipework.

Thanks for the link, so it’s the seals that go with the drain plugs - I would have thought a seal is a seal, unless the c6 rs6 has special gold leaf edging or are hand pressed by Irish leprechauns on the 4th full moon following the seventh passing of a flatulent donkey.

That or dealer incompetence.

I’ll take the latter.

Or 5 drain points if it's a late car. Even the parts manager at my local dealer didn't know how many seals I'd need and normally he's sh*t hot on parts, so gave me two sets telling me to return the ones I didn't use. I've got the part numbers somewhere - I'll look them out later.

There is actually three different versions:

Early production cars up to production week 12-13 = 2 drain points (after oil tank and thermostat housing).
Mid production cars = 4 drain points (before and after oil tank, oil cooler and thermostat housing).
Late production cars from production week 22 = 5 drain points. (before and after oil tank, oil cooler, thermostat housing and chain housing).

Yeah mines June 2010 so 5 drain points I guess. 2.5 days and 3 miles to do the oil change :bash: think it's a new record  still at least they discounted it to almost acceptable rates

Right, my invoice has washers:
N 013 844 4 <<<< these are certainly for the RS, they're for the plugs on the oil cooler and pipes
Then one of the following is for the thermostat plug and the other should be for the plug in the chain drive but I've no idea which is which
N 013 849 3
N 013 806 3

Yeah I had 2 x 013 849 3 and 3 x 013 844 4.
Only 5.6L of oil though
