Should i remove the centre resonator? NOISE!
Should i remove the centre resonator? NOISE!
Hey guys,
I feel the car is a little quiet so have toyed with doing a centre res delete. I'm not 100% sure I like the noise in videos - sounds a bit tinny and very raspy...
1. Does it sound better than a resonated car in person?
2. Does it drone like crazy at 70/80mph?
Thanks!!

You mean compared to a standard OEM exhaust rather than a milltek resonated? If so then yes it sounds much better which is why people do it. Mine has a rasp but I like that.
And I get no noticeable drone at any speed.

And disconnect the valves for even more noise.

People talk about the miltek having a drone at 2-2.5k , and it does, but when just cruising round 30 zones, I only ever need 1.5k, and on the motorways at 80mph your above the drone, so to me its irrelevant. Sounds brilliant above 5.5k on sport mode, thats all you need to know basically

Milltek valved non res is what you want!
After hitting 5.5k the sounds are amazing.
I get no drone on motorways between 70-80

Just do the res delete on the stock exhaust, replace with straight pipes, it sounds lovely with no drone.
The car will sound so much better without you looking like a massive knob, just the right side of loud.
I had a guy in a Seat Leon come past and tell me that the car sounded utterly beautiful once. This did happen in Dunfermline though so there was a good chance the driver was high on drugs at the time.

Res delete and gut the pre cats. I've done this and am very happy with it. It gives a very nice level of rasp but with no drone.... Just doing the res i was quite disappointed TBH.
Re: Should i remove the centre resonator? NOISE!
I only did the res delete after I already gutted the pre cats so can't comment on the sound of the res delete with pre cats in place still but I know that the pre cat delete with oem exhaust was very quiet and the res delete made all the difference for me but maybe Jony is right that you need the combo to make it great.
Re: Should i remove the centre resonator? NOISE!
Same thing in a different order isn't it Mike?
Re: Should i remove the centre resonator? NOISE!
Yes but I didn't think the pre cat delete made much difference to the noise.
Re: Should i remove the centre resonator? NOISE!
Primary and secondary cat delete + valve mod = best
The resonator adds a very nice deep tone. Remove it and from the outside they sound like a raspy peice of sh*&

Re: Should i remove the centre resonator? NOISE!
Mine has standard exhaust but with centre resonator replaced with straight pipe. Sounds good and is still refined on motorway etc. Must admit when I drove ones completely standard I was a bit disappointed with the noise. Would definitely recommend removing the centre silencers!
Re: Should i remove the centre resonator? NOISE!
Just recently removed mine and one of the cats - the sound is a lot better than before (imo)
