Re: Exhaust Flaps FAQ
Shine a torch up your exhaust ooh err lol
You will see inside the large oval main opening two smaller round holes
One is always open, the other has the valve in which is a round metal flap
If working correctly with the engine off you should see (per side) one round unobstructed pipe and one pipe with the side of the flap on view (it's open position)
Go on the MRC Tuning site, look at video on front page of the "road warrior" black supercharged rs4 and each video - at 50 seconds in it shows the flaps operating I.e going from closed to open when S button is pressed
Plus is a cool video

Had the car up on the ramp today. Car was faultless underneath. However noticed one of the exhaust flaps closed when i was polishing the tips. Cleaned and lubricated flaps, diaphragm pump serviced- now functioning perfectly. Noticeable in drive/sound Credit to Fisky @ AudiSrs.

Re: Exhaust Flaps FAQ
Hi Folks,
New on this and can see last post was good while back but was a great read and gave me a push to check mine.
Noticed the flaps were not working correctly after reading this FAQ and on checking further both were stuck closed.
Used spray lubricant and copper pipe to get the left one free and now it opens as it should.
Thought a good task to try the "function test of Power Flap and Manifold Flaps" to get a check on the exhaust flaps but used this as an exercise to also check the airbox flap and intake flaps.
Both these works as should - when I got the exhaust flap test - it operates the left (one I freed up) but nothing on the right one!
Gave it a good going over with spray lubricant and alternated with WD40 on sessions - now given it a few goes and it is opening but not on its own - only with a nudge with the pipe.
So from what I can tell is that the right flap is closing perfectly - no probs with the vacuum but that its not opening right maybe the actuator / spring /mechanism.
Tried to take of the hose of the right actuator and have the flap in the open position - blanked of the hose and nipple on the actuator for safety.
Going to have to give it a few more goes on the right to see if I can free up at all - however in the meantime is it okay to have just one flap constantly open (right side) and other on Sport button as normal (left side).
Know some have both flaps constantly open but wondering on each separate.
Any thoughts on above are greatly appreciated....
Vic

Re: Exhaust Flaps FAQ
The flaps just affect the noise - can't see any issues if they are stuck open or shut (many on here including me have deleted the flaps anyway)

Re: Exhaust Flaps FAQ
Vic, I'd keep working on the last remaining one, it takes a little time and patience. Try using Plusgas to free it off and 3in1 to keep it lubricated.

Re: Exhaust Flaps FAQ
My flaps have been stuck open for the past week now on my c7 rs6. In comfort the flaps are normally closed but there now stuck open no matter what option I choose. It has a full milteck exhaust system. Where are these vacuum actuators located?
Thanks guys

Re: Exhaust Flaps FAQ
You're in the wrong forum dude. The C7 has electric valves not vacuum.
Re: Exhaust Flaps FAQ
Ar crap thanks for the heads up,in that case it must be either a fuse or loose connection! It happened a few months ago as well but only for a day then was fine. So most likely loose connection somewhere
Re: Exhaust Flaps FAQ
Is it both flaps or just one side? If it's both sides then if won't be the connection at the back boxes.
