Have seen the new M5 testing at the Nurburgring. If the sound is anything to go by, you will be keeping the C7!
Never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

The same dealer warned me off even having a different exhaust. I was intending to go Milltek tbh so I thought I'd check this with an Audi dealer I've dealt with several times. They strongly recommended against even swapping the exhaust. Apparently Audi have become a lot more strict with warranties and had been claiming that with exhausts the change in back pressure would probably have a detrimental effect on the engine - so warranty void.

Drab British weather doesn't really do it justice.

When I rang Audi UK they said an Akrapovic would be OK, although I failed to get this confirmed with a follow up email.

Is the MRC map on the PE only 80ps?
The PE is around 620ps on the dyno. A non PE with filter and remap is circa 700ps. I believe the PE is no better off once remapped.

I might try calling them myself. We really need a UK equivalent to the Magnus_Moss warranty act in the US where they dealer/manufacturer have to prove the mod has caused the fault.

Akrapovic TUV approved that's why it's okay, Miltek non resonated that's why Audi said not ok,I think Miltek can void warranty or maybe even any aftermarket exhaust can void it, except akrapovic maybe, as Audi may have a contract with akrapovic.I would go for any other aftermarket exhaust than an akrapovic, it's very overpriced and not sounds so good as

P.s if you just change exhaust (catback) no remap is needed, but if you change downpipes then remap definitely needed. Catback itself can't harm anything.

Plus it's not good when you change downpipes and leave stock exhaust then back pressure can be for sure.

Coming from a stock C6 the C7 is totally different (albeit less 'raw') and noticeably quicker low down. Tuning really doesn't feel necessary right now but maybe 6 months down the line may be the way I go. Still got just under 2 years original warranty left. Sports exhaust is great but still need more noise (the Milltek on my C6 was booming although a constant noise-am loving stop/start in traffic!) so the exhaust mod or a full on new exhaust will be called for.

Definitely needs aftermarket exhaust, Audi sport exhausts are very weak

I'm curious about the new M5 but can't help but wonder (other than track days) when I would decide to turn off AWD on UK roads. The problem is that you get very used to AWD and "unlearn" RWD. This happened to me only two days ago when I traded in my (generally brilliant) C63s ED1 coupe for a Nogaro RS6 PE.

When I was driving the C63 almost exclusively I became quite familiar with it and what to expect from it. Most of the time I ran it in Sports mode and it was enormous fun. There was only one occasion during that period where the car did something a little unexpected. However, for various reasons, I hadn't driven the C63 for awhile (5 weeks) and had been driving mainly AWDs. It was my last drive with the C63 and I put my foot down on an (almost) straight section of road but didn't do it smoothly and the tyres hadn't warmed up enough. It was a tunnel vision moment as the car went somewhat sideways and I considered, in what seemed like an eternity, just what discount I would have to provide for a car covered in cow field. Fortunately I wasn't in race mode and the car along with a little muscle memory kicked in and I avoided the field.

My point is that one has to drive a powerful RWD car quite a lot to become familiar with it. Having the option to turn off AWD on this new generation sounds great but would I ever dare turn it off in normal on road circumstances after running it with AWD for lengthy periods? Probably not.
That's a good point & one i'd not really thought of. Like you though i flipped between RWD/AWD as the wife's new XC60 which is AWD got the most day to day usage & my M5 for longer journeys but never felt i needed to adjust as it was obvious the M5 was different given it had 3 times the power/torque. I guess if you had an M5 & RS6 it would be a bigger factor as you'd not want to get the drives the wrong way round.

I'd assume this ability to switch to RWD would be to heighten the fun in the Summer & of course on track, but when conditions are not so great it would be left in AWD. Judging by the AMG info it's not a simple button press to switch to RWD, you need to change a few settings to access the RWD only option & i'd guess the same will apply to the M5.

I also think in good conditions the differences are not as obvious as either drive option wouldn't be struggling for grip & thus would you really notice? Was watching a YouTube clip last night of the new MY17 GT-R vs. 991 Turbo S vs. McL 570S vs. R8 V10+ & on paper the R8/Turbo S should have taken the win, but the 570S was the victor & that being the only one of the 3 to be pure RWD. Had it been damp then the results would have been completely reversed. What was a little funny is how the GT-R was left for dead, yet 3-4yrs ago it was the Supercar slayer, however Nissan still claim on paper it's the fastest of the 4 above.
The 0-60 on the GTR is a mystery to me. Perhaps it varies much more than normal between cars or maybe Nissan "tweak" their test cars a little. Nothing normally beats the 911 in less than perfect conditions... well I'm excluding certain *ahem* electric vehicles of course :)

As you may remember I have a 911TTS (still!) and was using that as my second car, the C63 being the primary. For the last six months AWD was a novelty and I didn't need to re-learn anything. However when I had my second gap not using the C63 I was using the 911, and a Merc AMG GLE 43 AWD which is pretty nippy so I re-learned being spoilt and lazy with AWD :)

I have to say that I've been quite surprised how much quicker the PE version of the RS6 is over my 2013/14 pre facelift RS6. Maybe it's a combination of software improvements on the gearbox and engine plus the extra HP but it doesn't feel far off my 911 which was not the case at all with my original RS6.
I had my first encounter with a GTR (09 plate) yesterday, before I always backed off but now in the C7 it was a case of 'this could get interesting!'. He saw me coming and gave it some so I did the same. Very quickly he gave way and hung back! Would have loved to have heard the conversation inside as he was expecting the usual 'quick kill' I expect. Quite the weapon is the C7 ImageImage
