Towbar

Post by SimonG » Thu Jan 26, 2017 8:49 am

Hi potential new owner .
I know the old RS4 couldn't have a towbar fitted. Can this model of the RS6 have one? Not for towing but fitting a bike rack on .
Thanks

Is it not an issue depending on what suspension you're running?

Thought i'd read on here that if you're on Air then you can't but regular setup you can (could have been the other way round).

Yes, must be on air and not have carbon pack.

Would it be a straight (ignoring legalities!) swap from the one installed on air to a drc car? Or is it a physical difference as well as the type approval?

I'm pretty sure it's not mechanically possible.

I believe the air was required to self level the car with the extra load. Not sure if the mounting points are still there or not on a DRC car. Edit: doddle just replied above.
The bit about carbon is purely because the carbon rear diffuser is a single piece of carbon with no flap to open to allow the toe bar to swing out like it can on the plastic diffuser which has a flap.

The factory bar occupies a void that contains DRC components on DRC cars. That is why you have to specify air if you want the tow bar. Self-levelling is a bonus rather than the reason.

Agree 100% Air is a bonus. Possible to adjust ride height, same level on fylly loaded car. This is not a track car so why spend money on DRC?

It's not a boat so why pay all that money for a car that rolls like one?

Thanks all.
So can't get one with sports pack or exterior carbon? Car has to have the air suspension- correct?

And there doesn't appear to be many like this ....
