Brake Accuator - warning light

Post by Msaville » Mon Mar 24, 2003 12:00 pm

Hi There

My brake warning light lights up and beeps when I start the car up cold and leave it to idle a few minutes in the morning. I have been led to believe this may be the "acctuator".

Im not to sure what that part does. Please could someone give me their thoughts on this - especially if you have also had this issue.

Cheers

Hi,
I think that your problem is a low level in the hidraulic tank of the steering system. Try to check the level and search for leaks.

Also check brake fluid level.

Could be accumulator as well. This can be tested by pressing the brake pedal after car is turned off, you should get at least 5-10 brake assisted pushes, after the pressure accumulator is empty, the pedal will feel very heavy.

Jani and co. Thanks for the tips. Its very intermittent but only when idling cold and stationary. It dissapears once on the move. Ill try testing the accumulator.

also worth checking your brake 'bomb' once you have checked your levels.

after a run if you car, stop and turn engine off and pump the brake pedal until it goes solid. should be about 35-40 pumps
