So whats the deal with suspensions?

Post by imster » Thu Oct 06, 2016 5:05 pm

I'm confused about the suspension options for the RS6 Performance, perhaps someone can enlighten/correct me...

The standard suspension (non dynamic) is air suspension? Does it adjust ride height based on what setting it is in? Or is there only 1 suspension setting?

Is it correct to assume that pretty much everyone goes for the Dynamic suspension? And is it this also air ride (height adjustable etc)

When it comes to lowering I have heard that some people go for springs and others have to lower it through Vagcom, is this correct? And finally whats the deal with the airmatic lowering links? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/AUDI-A6-S6-R ... SwajVUSUPh

Thx in advance!

Yes it is adjusting ride height depending if you are in comfort or dynamic for example.
However you do not have the same handle as you get with the DRC from what ive heard.

Dynamic suspension is not air. And it is not adjustable (Without changing springs or getting adjustable springs that is)

If you get the DRC (Dynamic suspension) you have to change the springs to lower it (20 - 40 mm is normal)
If you get the air version (None dynamic) you can connect to the car with a VCDS-cable and change the car (Normally maximum 17mm)

If you want to have a controll unit inside the car who lets you set the ride height (More then the none dynamic version) you have too buy a unit like the one you linked :)

Hope it helps!

Yeah, what he said.
There has been much debate as to whether air or springs are the better option. Some say air is great and perfect for their needs, others not.

If you drive like an absolute hooligan, the road is a bit gnarly and you're cornering "with haste" air suspension can on a rare occasion feel a bit undulating.

I don't often drive like a hooligan so I've only experienced this circa 10 times in 6k miles. For me, its a small price to pay to turn the car into a softly sprung limo when I'm transporting the in-laws or when I need to jack the ride height up if I'm boarding a ferry/steep car park ramp/ farcically oversized speed hump side street.

You can independently raise or lower the car with a separate button regardless of what DRC setting you are in.

Dynamic

Dropped mine 15mm
Spacered it

It actually drives better....far less bounce from wheels on rebound...if that makes sense?

Actually rides better too.

Of course most people will stick with OEM but honestly my car feels Better to me modded.

Il await "audi spends millions on development ". .. what do I know? I'm only speaking from personal experience.

Car is a better package now.

This. Except I dropped mine 40mm. Clearly this would be too low for Audi to sell as a mass produced car.

I get the benefits of air (adjustable ride height in-car) and love the thought of it but I just found it too rolly on roundabouts. And DRC on comfort is plenty soft enough for me.
