Carbon Cleaning 2014 RS4
Carbon Cleaning 2014 RS4
Hi all,
Just picking up a 2014 RS4 in Viper Green with 15k on the clock. Having looked around the forums on the car before purchase there seems to be a lot of talk about carbon buildup.
Can anybody summarize the issues, frequency and specialists with regards the issue? Is it something I should be worried about?
Thanks
Adam

Re: Carbon Cleaning 2014 RS4
It's an issue that can affect all FSI cars, although it seems to have been most prevalent/talked about on the previous generation B7 RS4.
There's a forum member who's had their RS5 which shares with the B8 RS4 the later engine, inspected and cleaned for carbon by MRC. There was still carbon build-up happening on this engine but perhaps not quite as bad. The only way you'll ever really notice is when you get the car dyno'd, as it will be slightly down on claimed power. That being said, I seen members who've had their B8's dyno'd after 12k miles and still hitting manufacturer claimed figures, so think a lot comes down to how the car is used.
If the car see's regular "Italian tunes" and lengthy journey times, then it will be cleaner than say one which is used by a wife to potter around town and occasional drive outs.

Re: Carbon Cleaning 2014 RS4
Also a recent thread by Riv states that his car is getting faster rather than slower with age suggesting carbon is not a big issue with the B8.
Re: Carbon Cleaning 2014 RS4
That's great if they've sorted it on the B8.
Anyone had the manifold off one to have a look? Or dyno'd at higher mileage?
Would be good to have some data points

Re: Carbon Cleaning 2014 RS4
I had mine on the rollers at MRC with 16k on it, made 429ps.
As with Silas mine feels quicker now at 20k miles and she gets driven properly.

Re: Carbon Cleaning 2014 RS4
I had my RS5 Carbon Cleaned around around 43k miles, with some others tweaks the car made a single run of 460PS (its highest that day) on the rollers, jump forward to this year and at around 54k miles back on the same rolling road similar conditions car made 423PS. I will say this though during the initial dyno tune by MRC it took Doug a few goes to get the car to make a consistent figure, initially it was at 401PS but with no changes at all and after a handful of runs it was running 422PS and I do 'tune' the car on a regular basis. This meant the car can vary by 20PS between runs. From when I purchased the car the initial stage 2 took this from 422PS to 438PS and unhappy with this I then had them dive in and do a carbon clean, filter change, exhaust (done elsewhere) and s tronic remap which got me to 460PS. I will also add that this year on the dyno the reverse was true, the cars first run was the strongest at 423PS and then the second and third was less again to a total of around 20PS. But it sounds good
Hope this helps

These cars need driving hard, my mates old b7 didn't have much build up at 40k and spanked the Arse of it on a daily basisI had mine on the rollers at MRC with 16k on it, made 429ps.

Re: Carbon Cleaning 2014 RS4
Do you still drive daily with your gearbox set in dynamic Silas?
Re: Carbon Cleaning 2014 RS4
Yes gaz,it's just in Audi having the oil dropped 10k before it needs doing, I'm just being careful mate.Do you still drive daily with your gearbox set in dynamic Silas?
You still having problems?
Re: Carbon Cleaning 2014 RS4
Yes buddy and still intermittent. Until it is a steady fault I won't do anything. I wonder if it will effect the clutch life as its an expensive job.

I'm not sure Gaz, last thing you want is a scary billYes buddy and still intermittent. Until it is a steady fault I won't do anything. I wonder if it will effect the clutch life as its an expensive job.
I just got my car back from having the G box oil changed, I have to say it feels
Much smoother with shifting, I think it was worth doing early.
