ABS Pump Control Unit

Post by MalcolmSu » Mon Apr 04, 2016 7:54 pm

Excuse my lack of technical knowledge here...

I'd been told i needed to replace my ABS Pump Control Unit as if it's a thing, but the more I read about these it's actually several things? Am i correct in saying it's more likely that it's the Control Unit that's failed and not the ABS Pump? And in that case is it not possible to remove the (Electronic) Control Unit by itself for repair or replacement - just means there would be no ABS control? Or is it always better to repair or replace these two things as a unit?

BTW the above is all academic as I've now purchased a s/h ABS Pump (and?) Contol Unit and await delivery. Just interested...

They are a single unit but can be persuaded to separate. I'd be interested to know what fails in them.

The fault on mine was some of the very fine wires in the control unit had broken. Not repairable.

Well it appears that mine is refusing to be recoded,,,this was after my original unit was repaired , and then still refused to be talked to by the vag,
at the moment awaiting some other input from a higher source , will keep you informed , apart from the the car is stunning , forgot how quick it is,

Good news , all coded at the local dealer and its sorted , seems that if buying a used brain it needs to be recoded to the recipient vehicle using the original abs brains code, which could not be retrieved as comms to the unit was part of the problem, so i will be taking a note of all the control units for any further reference.
Then once this was sorted the ac began working again, .
picking it up this afternoon with a new ticket , :jump_clap:
