I'd want an uprated one for that money!

Re: Maximum gearbox torque before slipping
Might as well go the whole hog, get a 517 box from the states and go nuts with hybrid turbos, tubular manifolds, water/meth, wagner IC's...
Is it worth it though? As you said you're already substantially more torque than standard, and on a stage 1 tune you'll only get ~30-40NM more torque, I doubt you'd even feel it.

But maybe he's wondering why it's slipping and when it'll fail completely...

Maybe a 517 valve body would be a good interim compromise.

Re: Maximum gearbox torque before slipping
I wonder how much the 517 body is?
Re: Maximum gearbox torque before slipping
Not much. I paid 900USD back in 2013, the shipping with FEDEX was about £70 each way. Just be careful with how you document the item, you need to state it's of small commercial and return for repair so you don't a raping off customs and excises. Don't list it as no commercial value, it attracts too much attention and the thing looks like a fucken bomb circuit as it is. For your shipping estimations, it weighs 12kgs if drained correctly and most importantly, wrap the sh1t out it, like you need it to survive a drop from the edge of space. I suggest wrapping it in loads of bubble wrap and then packing into a box with those edible styrofoam fuckers. If a solenoid gets broken off then it's bye bye valvebody.
No matter where you go, there you are.
Re: Maximum gearbox torque before slipping
Cool, good info!
On the 517 trans website it just calls it a ' valve body recalibration', so does it actually improve clamping force and driveability?
I wish more than anything that mrc could get it to blippy downshift. The rs6 study guide says it should but I guess it must have been difficult to implement perhaps.

Re: Maximum gearbox torque before slipping
Shifts were meant to be more 'positive' but I couldn't tell, mostly because I never drove tiptro C5 RS6 back to back. It didn't change any other driving characteristics but I never experienced any slip running 605PS and 848Nm so I guess that's what counts, even after 15mins on track. I could have the TC locked aat low speeds in 3rd, 4th or 5th and floor it without any slip anywhere on the rev range. These were all things that I'd noticed would cause 'issues' prior to the uprated VB.
I don't think the blip downshift is really required, is it? The TCU just has presets it will change down to, the 'loon always sounded like death when down changing anyways. I wish MRC could add no-lift changes for the C5 manual, that'd make my day, or maybe that Nissan SynchroRev Match (SRM) stylee.

Re: Maximum gearbox torque before slipping
Throttle blips are just tps controlled inputs during gearchange... obviously a full calc would have to be made so no matter the rev's it was matched correctly with the throttle input.SuprSi wrote:Cool, good info!

I can imagine it being quite hard, could a baseline not be taking from the C6 which has this?
I actually thought C5's blipped in manual mode... learn something new everyday,
As bam says SRM would be cool as hell!

It's not slipping at the moment with 'only' 782Nm which is fine, but it's always going to be in the back of my mind. Just got to decide whether to go exchange Audi box or rebuilt with 517...
Ironically, the rebuild has 18 months left on a 2 year warranty but as they've proven incapable of rebuilding it properly there's no way I'm going back there. Ever.

Who did you use mate? Is it the people AMD use?
517 is $900 for valve body recalibration. Certainly something to think about if it ever goes.

Re: Maximum gearbox torque before slipping
JT Automatics in Erith, Kent. Yes, after making some enquiries I found that AmD outsource the work to another company who in turn get JT to do the rebuild. That's why I went to them directly as it worked out a few hundred pounds cheaper. Hmm...Jay_g wrote:Who did you use mate? Is it the people AMD use?
So £650-ish plus shipping. Is it then just a case of removing the box, swapping the valve bodies and refitting? JT charged £1200 + vat to remove and refit (ballpark figure I'm guessing.) Would also need to factor in cost of swapping valve bodies plus any other work that might need doing e.g. clutches.Jay_g wrote:517 is $900 for valve body recalibration. bam (or anyone) - who did you get to fit the 517 please and roughly what did it all cost?
