New Car Run In

Hi All,
With the new arrival imminent any advice on running her in. Don't abuse my cars (ensure oil is up to temp before doing anything silly) but is there a specific run in period on the C7? Dealer said not really but as we all know, dealers don't know much

500 miles taking it easy seems to be a popular theory.

It is covered in the manual. Standard take it easy advice for first 1000 miles or so.

From the manual -

"A new vehicle should be run in over a distance of 1,500 km. For the first 1,000 km the engine should not exceed 2/3 of the maximum permissible engine speed - do not use full throttle and do not tow a trailer or caravan. From 1,000km to 1,500km you can gradually increase the engine rpm and road speed."

So easentially take it easy for first 600 miles then increase over the next 300 and then you can finally give it some beans at 900 miles.

At the risk of being anal, a long journey at constant speed is not the best way to run it in. Lots of variation in throttle and engine braking downhill (to hone non thrust side of piston) is the order of the day. But these things fly even when you are taking it easy so not that hard. And you won't forget the first time you nail it on an overtake - hang on tight!

ahhhhhhh Ive got a holiday planned with the caravan quite soon after I hope to get my RS6 - better hang onto the BMW as well until ive done the 1000km or just get for a fekking long drive which wont be a hardship...... darn 3 cars now.......

Loads of articles on this. Years ago they did testing on a new CBR900 blade. Easy run in and nailed from the start. nailed from the start made more power and used less oil

my car was nailed from the word go.

I run my karts in, in much the same way. Easy 1st lap of the track then nail it. I see loads of others doing 10 to 15 laps gradually upping the speed. Too last damage is done. My engines are always very strong.
