Headlight Washers VCDS Question

Post by u22mjd » Thu Nov 26, 2015 11:48 am

Morning lads quick question regarding the highlight washers on my B8 S4. Recently had an RS4 style bumper fitted and the headlight washers are operating fine but won't retract back in as they keep getting stuck on the flaps in the bumper. Having had a look the body Shop have damaged the little bit of plastic the bumpers push again to open the flaps. Is there an option to disable them with VCDS as there useless anyway and it drains the windscreen washer tank or can I just disconnect them electronically?

I've got the exact same issue! :thumbsdown: I hardly use the washers with the headlights on so this is on the long-range "to do" list.

However, I believe you can disable the headlamps washers via VCDS, yes:
Disable Headlight Washers
[09 – Cent. Elect.] [Coding - 07] -> Long Coding Helper -> Byte 18
Bit 0 - Remove check mark (1 = headlight washers installed)
I've not tried this personally though, and don't forget you'll need them again come MOT time 8)

I have shaved the aliens so that they no longer catch the flap, NO detriment to operation been working for about
12 months now no issues

Just to note.

If you have Xenons and deactivate the headlight wash facility, you will fail an MOT test.

How would the tester ever know? He would have to try so many times and even then it doesn't squirt!

On my own car I de-activate the feature as I don't like it showering the clean bonnet. Two years running now, Audi have failed it for inoperable headlight washers as I always forget to re-activate them come MOT test time.

I think the count between last squirt is reset when either the lights are switched off or when the car is switched off and locked up.

Doesn't it squirt everytime you have a long squirt on the windscreen with the headlights on?

Either way, my old alfa failed the MOT because one washer didn't work. I'm not sure if it is only relevant to cars with xenons either. I thought if your car was fitted with headlight washers then they had to work to pass the MOT. I know cars with xenons must have washers and self-levelling but I thought the MOT requirements for washers was separate to that (but I could be wrong).
