Advice with VCDS

Post by Fatneck73 » Sat Nov 07, 2015 11:50 am

Hello all

I've just brought this, loaded it onto my PCs and am ready the use. Do I simply plug it it, turn ignition on (I don't believe the car has to be running?) and click Autoscan to scan if I've any faults?

Cheers,

Yup. Then delete any errors, take a drive and re-scan. Great bit of kit as long as you don't start scanning every week and give yourself high blood pressure.
previous- Pug 205 gti, 306 gti, 309 gti Goodwood.
Audi S3, S4 V8 avant.
Porsche Macan Turbo.
Gone but NEVER forgotten - C5 RS6 Misano red avant.

Now - Empty garage

If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there!

Before you scan press the brake pedal once or you'll get a spurious brake system error.
I usually turn the RNS off and HVAC too (fan to zero speed).

Is this a genuine full-price lead? If not you'll only have limited functionality, no autoscan, and will have to go into control units individually to find and clear errors.

Odd. Never had this on any car I've scanned. What car have you experienced this on?

Maybe it's only on older ones? Does it on any D2.

That might be it - I've done a few S3's (8P's) and B7's, along with a C6 and B8. Perhaps as you say it's older cars. Cheers - interesting and useful to remember!

Can't recall the error, but you just press the brake pedal once and it goes away. It's quite confusing if you see it because it's not obvious what it means.
