Need Some Advice PLEASE!

Post by Nops07104 » Fri May 01, 2015 4:27 am

Hey folks,

I'm new to the forum so I hope I'm posting this on the correct section.
Well I've been shopping around for a used S4 B8 and came across a 2007 RS4 b7 with 79,600 k miles on it. I went to go see it at the dealer and after reading the maintenance logs, I saw NO carbon cleaning done on the car. That's 1. Two, I also noticed that on the last visit to the dealer, the tech stated on the report that the car was in need of serious repairs. He stated that the Oil Cooler and two lines needed replacing because they were badly rotted. He also said the oil cooler needed replacing as well. Three, He also stated that a power steering line rack? was rotted too and that it needed replacement. I also noticed that the rear wheels are a bit worn on the inside. The car has stock everything from what I and my buddy who is very familiar with audis saw. The dealer is asking $32k U.S dollars for the car. And they do not want to deal with any repairs. The glove compartment is broke on one of the hinges which I hear is a common thing. The driver seat looks a bit beat, but not terrible - just normal wear. My question is, how expensive is it to repair the oil cooler, lines, power steering lines, and carbon cleaning (Since i'm sure its never been done)??

Is it worth it getting myself into this car? I'm sure I can negotiate the price, but I figured I'd ask here for any suggestions and advice. I like the car a lot, but I don't want to get into something that will become a money pit. I understand there is going to be maintenance too. And in a way, the repairs seems to be maintenance issues. :?

Thanks!

The oil cooler is a common issue and easily sorted for about 1k USD or so (local currency equiv).

Carbon clean is also common, they all suffer from it amd require it, about another 1k USD.

What would concern me more though are the other issues and the general bad state of repair and the fact the dealer wont touch it. That is a massive warning sign to me and id stay well clear of this car.

For info, i moved from a b7 rs4 to a b8 s4 last year and didnt regret it one bit. The performance difference is not noticeable unless you track them, the tech is all newer and the stronic is amazing.

B7 is a great car but its had its time for me now. B9 out next and it will feel even more dated

I agree that this sounds like a car that hasn't been loved so I'd stay away unless there were no other ones for sale and you had to have one.
I've never heard of the glovebox being a common issue.
And in the uk the power steering pipe can cost £2k to repair as it goes all around the bay but I believe the left hand drive cars have a shorter one.
I disagree about the carbon clean though, it's a waste of time and money.
If you still want to have it I'd knock him down on price to cover the cost of oil cooler, glovebox and power steering.

Sounds like a lemon. I would stay well clear. Bound to be other examples out there from a more loving owner. You get what you pay for.

Thanks for your input fellas. Unless the used car dealer drops the price at least 3k or more, I will not bother with it.
