(To date) there are no unofficial SW versions, it seems pretty locked down, however I am sure its just no one has bothered to jailbreak the car yet.TechNick wrote:How much control over SW updates do you have (officially or otherwise)? ...just in case the Nanny state kicks in at some point (say, following a high-profile incident involving a footballer/WAG and the back of a bus).
Re control over Official SW updates, not much. You get a icon on the screen saying "sw update available", this means the SW has already been downloaded to the car and is awaiting your permission to install. Install takes 30 to 60 mins and during which the car is undrivable. So you have two options, Update now or Schedule the update to occur at a particular time. You don't know what version is awaiting your permission to install until its down and you can see the SW version on the screen. Most larger updates come with detailed release notes and a new "in car" software manual - however some smaller downloads only have a "various bug fixes" as its release notes
