Windscreen Wipers Stopped

Post by jeffw » Thu Jan 06, 2005 9:07 am

Driving out of London yesterday and my wipers stopped working. I've tried moving the switch through all it's positions quickly just in case it was a dirty switch and it hasn't helped. The obvious thing to do is check the motor....

Has anyone had a similair problem and has any hints or tips ?:)

Checked the fuse and that is working. That particular fuse runs the washers, wipers and intermittent wipers.....the washers still work so....looks like the motor....

When I was looking through the history on my car the other day, I noticed that the car went into Audi.
The problem description read that the Wipers just would not work one morning.

They found the mechanism had seized so it had new mechanism under warrenty. Does not say it had a new motor!

Guess this is all it can point to! Motor or Mechanism

regards

I've got most of it apart but I'm struggling to get the whole unit (motor and mechanism) out. It looks like I'll have to take out the ECU and the ECU box before it will move. Problem is if I do that the car is stuck where it is until the ECU is refitted.....therefore I can't go for parts.

Local stealer has a open slot in their workshop next Tuesday......!

Waiting to hear from the parts department if they have the mechanism as well as the motor.

Since the whole thing stopped suddendly I'm thinking motor but I don't want to take the rest of the bits off the car and find it's the mechanism....Ohh and the heating in the house has packed up as well.....:(

Yeah, my boileer went a couple of months ago, just when it turned f***ing freezing and it took the plumber a week to come and diagnose, then another week to get the parts and fix - 2 of the coldest weeks of my life - never good when you can see your breath while sitting wathcing TV!!!

Have you tried to to check that power is getting to the motor with a simple power tester plus does it use a relay as I'm sure it dose for the delay part of it.

If all fails I have a RS4 shell that has all the parts you need.

Jeff,

It is possible to remove the ECU box lid and unclip the ECU and move it of the way of the wiper mechanism without disconnecting it. I had to do this recently on my TDI to cure a water leak at the base of the ECU box.

I had the wiper problem on mine when they skowed and then stopped. QST fitted a new wiper and linkage (you can't be too careful!!) in about 2 hours. Parts and labour under £300. I thought that wasn't bad.

I did it myself in the end for £65 (cost of the linkage).....Turned out my battery was knackered as well (no acid buckled plates...) that cost £65 as well.....!
