Nokia CARK-91 Hands Free Kit

Post by B5DOM » Tue Mar 11, 2003 11:34 am

Does anyone know if you can get a cable that mutes the stereo and then you can speak through the standard car stereo speakers, rather than the little nokia speaker.

I have been told that it is not possible with the bose stereo system, by the guy that installs my car kit! but find this strange as it will be the first car I have owned where this is not possible

I have a 99 S4 Avant with the Concert Stereo, Bose Upgrade & Sat Nav

I had the Bose system and the hands free kit was installed with the mute function. It was also retained when I upgraded to Sat Nav.

Apparently.....

Talking to the guy putting in my wifes new CD Autochanger yesterday you can mute from the Nokia but you can't use the speakers because of the amplifiers in the Bose set-up.

The mute works fine, and cuts the stereo and you get a german message on the stereo and in the dash that prob says "Phone" but you cannot use the stereo speakers so I have to put up with the silly little speaker that nokia supply

Hi Mate,

Dunno how good you are with a crimper/soldering iron, but trust me anything is posssible.

I'd be temped to get myself a couple of changeover relays and wire them in so that the same signal that you use to mute your system also operates the relays which could be used to break the signal running to the front speakers from the amp and reroute the output from your incar kit.

If you are paranoid about running an amp with no load on it (which personally I would be) then get some wirewound resistors too of about 4-8ohm and wire the system so that when the speakers are disconnected from the amp the resistors are wired across it instead.

Depends on how much troble you want to go to really.

If interested post back and I'll upload some schematics or something (could probably even build it for you if you wanted, but you'd be looking at about £50-100 I would imagine)
-Dan
