Morning Chaps, thanks for all the replies. Apologies it took sooooo long for me to post pictures but as I said earlier there was an initial issue with the site which was preventing me (and others) posting pictures.

Silas....good spot bud. I noticed the s/s trim strip that's on the top of the door was out of line with the rear door. Didn't think anything of it so guess the door may need a slight adjustment? You can have a look tomorrow when we meet up at Boxhill

So yesterday I spent most of the PM stripping out the n/s front arch liner and giving the various components a clean. No issues to note other than some surface rust on the pipe connected to the main shock which was cleaned up and some hammerite black applied. I decided to paint the disc hub as it was really shitty and IMO has tidied it up. Not everyone's choice but Im happy with it. I also gave the wheel a good clean, however they are not by any means as I want them and will eventually be refurbed in titanium / gun metal. I also jet washed the arch liner......never ceases to amaze me the amount of crap that these hols!! I also gave the Calliper a good clean with foliatic calliper cleaner and some soapy water. That came up well, and there were a few small chips which were touched in with some h/t black calliper paint. The last thing I did was to add a can of Wynns petrol Clean 3 to the tank which was brimmed earlier in the day.

Depending on my work load today I may get round to the o/s rear and perform the same work as for the front with the exception of the rear calliper which I will clean up and give a fresh coat of h/t balck calliper paint, and then work round to the other side.

Looking at the front of the car and considering it spent most of the last 3 years up and down the motorway from Macclesfield to Newcastle its not too bad. There are of course stone chips and I will look to get the whole front end Iinc wings) re painted, but not until the spring next year. This combined with the wheels, and also a small crack on the rear bumper were all taken in to account when I RAPED the previous owner on the price!!!!

A few things to ask.

1, The spare key wasn't working so replaced the battery. It starts the car but the remote functions don't work....Any ideas as to what this issue could be?
2, Can the rear windows be mad to open fully as they both only open approx 3/4

Im sure there will be more but for now I must start work!!

Rear windows stop there as if you look at how it rolls down, it would hit the rear arch area if it kept going.

Re the key/remote - did you try resycning it like I said previously?

The windows are often a safety thing to try and stop kids climbing out of vehicle car windows. I've not had a door card off to explore if it's purely a mechanical limiter or posistion sensor, either way it's normal for this to happen.

With regards to the key remote, have a read through the user manual - I know that's an alien thing to us blokes but there should be a process described to soft re-set the remote fob to the car. If this doesn't work then it will need a more involved process with VCDS software and a lead.

nice to see you have your car after the long wait

but big mistake painting your bells on your discs.
all that hamerite will have clogged up the last of whats left of the float in the front discs.
you now have solid non floating front discs.

Really think you’ve made a booboo with the gloss black on the disks though….. and have you painted the mating-surfaces ??
(you’ll vibrate/wobble like fcuk)

C17LJR was right that that windows won't go down fully because of the cut away section of the door for the rear wheel arch, it just won't physically fit! The only way to make it fully lower would have been to plit the glass into 2 sections.
Normally, the back window will only fully open if the glass has been divided into 2, with a movable rectangular section at the front and a fixed non-movable section behind it. This smaller glass therefore has enough room to fully lower.
Take a look at a side view of a Nissan Navara (for no other reason than I own one and know off-hand that the glass is like this) and you can see the 2 window sections and why they fully open, then look at your RS and you can see that the size and shape of the glass just can't fully lower into the door.

Oops.....Well only done the front o/s so will hold off doing the rest. Drove the car last night and the brakes felt fine even under some heavy braking and no wobble. Same today and again had several "high speed" sorties together with lots of heavy braking......again no wobbles and brakes feel very good

I tried a similar process earlier today with no luck . Got the manual out now and found the Key Re-Sync on page 75. I'll give this a go tomorrow morning. If no joy then it will have to wait until I get me VCDS kit. Thanks again bud

Evening Chaps, The journey continues and here is the latest installment

Well Mr T....CRAZY FOOL has certainly been the main focus of my week. Had a few days off and also spent some late evenings working on him in my garage. So far I have completed the following.

All wheel arch liners removed and jet washed
Inner arches hosed and washed out. Amazing how much road dirt and crap gets behind the liners
Checked all components and treated any surface rust with cure rust and the a coat of black hammerite where necessary
Drilled out all four discs as they were solid with hardened brake dust
Cleaned all callipers ready for re painting in Black and decided to ditch the RS logo and Re Brand as Brembo, as the Callipers are made by Brembo
Repainted all 4 callipers and applied Brembo Decals....yes OK the rears are AFAIK not Brembo made but its a subtle touch!!

The above took a few days mostly due to waiting for the coats of paint and HT Hycote Clear lacquer to cure on the Callipers, however the results speaks for itself. Excuse the alloys as they will be refurbished later in September

I then installed some Tri jet washers which was a simple task and took all of 10 minutes and is a nice little upgrade to the car. The next job was to install a full set of interior LEDs from Trups. This was again an easy task and took around 45 mins to complete and has made such a difference to the ambiance of the cabin when its night time.
I'll post some pics later as didn't get a chance to take any last night. I also have a set of LED DRLs, Side lights and Fog lights together with the de-coders for the DRLs and this lot will be fitted by AmD when they remove the front bumper to install the CAF. They are also going to de-tango the headlights for me and remove the grille surround so I can paint it black. I also removed the rear boot strip and this is also being painted black.

Next job was to remove all the Ali interior trim and steering wheel trim. This again was a pretty easy task and just required a little time and finesse. I also used my sons BoJo tools to remove the parts as these are designed for the job. I then set off and dropped all the parts in to Malcolm who is in the process of Hydro Dipping them in CF. He also dismantled the steering wheel surround for me which was a real pig as its glued and a bit of a mission to get off, however he is a top top man and after several minutes it was removed and placed with the other parts in readiness to commence the process. I should get the bits back on Sunday so will post pics then.

I then embarked on the next job which was to upgrade the rear lights to a set of LEDs. I had spent many hours searching the web for a set of lights that looked like a factory fit and not like a "Max Power" job. Finally found a set from Dectane in Germany and fitted these yesterday, together with upgraded reverse bulbs and decoders from Trups as the lights were supplied with standard bulbs. Comments welcome, however several of my neighbours have commented on how fantastic these lights look over the standard OE lights.

Right I'm off to start the next stage of detailing and also finish painting the boot strip. More to follow before Mr T goes to AmD on Monday
