Steering Issue on B8 FL

Post by miatang » Tue Apr 02, 2013 2:22 pm

Theres a big thread over on Audizine regarding steering issues they are having on the B8 FL resulting is replacements of steering racks. Theres no mention of it on here so I was wondering is the problem isolated to the US?

Complaints of a notchy slip feel like the steering wheel is disconnected momentarily.

The thread is over 30 pages long and seems to be affecting a lot of B8.5 owners. I'm guessing no one has been affected by this problem then.

Here's the thread

Scary to read that a software update has to be done on something that should be mechanical!!!

Should be mechanical but is now electromechanical.

I find the steering go funny sometimes, like its momentarily too light. Don't know if its related to this.

Add dynamic steering and then you are really up <beep> creek!

I hope it's isolated to the US. Are US and UK S4 built in the same factory?

Nope, it's in the UK and Europe as well as Canada, 2 different issues, some people have one or the other or both, rack replacements appear to fix the notchy feeling when steering and a software update is required (still pending) to sort the 12 O'Clock slip - which feels like you have no steering just either side of the 12 O'Clock position, there is a temp fix some guy has come up with using Vagcom.

I have both issues mainly the 12 O'clock slip issue :( on my 2013 S4

Silica666: Have you had your rack replaced yet? Are UK Dealers recognising this as a problem now?

No rack replacement at this time and a software update pending, Audi are aware of this issue and I am receiving weekly updates from the dealer, who was aware of the issue when I contacted them, I also contacted Audi Uk who have given me a reference number.

The issue is known but Audi UK are not authorising any repairs until they find a total solution to the problem.

I hope its all remedied by the time I get my car. Be a shame to wait 4 months and then find out you have to take it back for more work. :audibash:

I'm afraid this could still be the case but with something else!
