Steering Issue on B8 FL
Steering Issue on B8 FL
Theres a big thread over on Audizine regarding steering issues they are having on the B8 FL resulting is replacements of steering racks. Theres no mention of it on here so I was wondering is the problem isolated to the US?

Re: Steering Issue on B8 FL
What's the steering issue?
Re: Steering Issue on B8 FL
Complaints of a notchy slip feel like the steering wheel is disconnected momentarily.
The thread is over 30 pages long and seems to be affecting a lot of B8.5 owners. I'm guessing no one has been affected by this problem then.
Here's the thread

Dont want to tempt fate, no problem yet. I've done 1500 miles since I picked my car up
Re: Steering Issue on B8 FL
I had a software update on my steering in my S4. This may have been to solve this.

2013: B8 RS 5, 3.0T S5 coupe, B8 S5 cab - temp, B8 S4 avant
2011: 2.0T FL Octavia VRS
2010: 1.8T Octavia VRS

Scary to read that a software update has to be done on something that should be mechanical!!!Nickyboy wrote:I had a software update on my steering in my S4. This may have been to solve this.

Should be mechanical but is now electromechanical.535dboy wrote:Scary to read that a software update has to be done on something that should be mechanical!!!Nickyboy wrote:I had a software update on my steering in my S4. This may have been to solve this.
I find the steering go funny sometimes, like its momentarily too light. Don't know if its related to this.

Re: Steering Issue on B8 FL
I hope it's isolated to the US. Are US and UK S4 built in the same factory?
Re: Steering Issue on B8 FL
Nope, it's in the UK and Europe as well as Canada, 2 different issues, some people have one or the other or both, rack replacements appear to fix the notchy feeling when steering and a software update is required (still pending) to sort the 12 O'Clock slip - which feels like you have no steering just either side of the 12 O'Clock position, there is a temp fix some guy has come up with using Vagcom.
I have both issues mainly the 12 O'clock slip issue
on my 2013 S4

Re: Steering Issue on B8 FL
Silica666: Have you had your rack replaced yet? Are UK Dealers recognising this as a problem now?
Re: Steering Issue on B8 FL
No rack replacement at this time and a software update pending, Audi are aware of this issue and I am receiving weekly updates from the dealer, who was aware of the issue when I contacted them, I also contacted Audi Uk who have given me a reference number.
The issue is known but Audi UK are not authorising any repairs until they find a total solution to the problem.

Re: Steering Issue on B8 FL
I hope its all remedied by the time I get my car. Be a shame to wait 4 months and then find out you have to take it back for more work.

I'm afraid this could still be the case but with something else!miatang wrote:I hope its all remedied by the time I get my car. Be a shame to wait 4 months and then find out you have to take it back for more work.
