Car off to MRC

Post by RS4pete » Wed Oct 24, 2012 8:58 am

Really interested in the outcome. Not so much on the performance, its pretty apparent it's the best kit out there with seriously good results.

More interested in the value of it. As previously mentioned, you had to think long and hard and I'm guessing that was based purely on the financial aspect.

IF I had that amount of money to (for want of a better word) spunk on something, it'd take a lot to keep out of the Ducati showroom :)

Its a good point Pete and was a decision that I didn't make lightly as you'd imagine. It kinda made it a little easier (or less obvious financially!) on myself by effectively doing it in stages so it wasn't quite so painful. If the PES hadn't 'come along' and allowed me to try supercharging at a very affordable price first I truly do not think I would ever have went out and spent @16k in one swoop on the TTS. However, if you really like the B7 RS4 as much as I like mine, and feel there is nothing else out there (of that type of car)that appeals to you, and you really don't want to or have to sell it, what do you do? You make it 'interesting' again by fitting a supercharger!
If I was to fancy for example the new RS4(which I don't) and chose to buy one of a simlar spec to my current car (70k ) the depreciation on that in the 18months will be far greater than the cost of the TTS, and remember, the TTS is something I can always take off and sell easily as there will be quite a demand for a 2nd hand charger I'm sure. A personalised and TTS charged B7 RS4 is going to be a far more special piece of kit than a basic B8 RS4. I haven't even driven my car yet so I can't say if its money well spent, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to like it,- a lot!
Yes I thought about keeping it standard and quote,- "spunking" the money on something else like a MK1 or MK2 RS Escort for which I still have a serious liking but physical space does not permit as I already have something else in the garage and I've only got room for 2 cars. :D

I understand exactly what you're saying. Being such a unique RS4 makes the decision that much easier as does the high resale demand if it ever came to that.

What i'm learning is the key to keeping interest in the RS4 is to continue modifying/improving and as you mentioned there really arn't many places to go if you want to change without spending a small fortune. Agree 100% on the B8. Also, i do see how it can make finacial sense to improve the 4 rather than take the hit on depreciation on a newer car ..... i'll hopefully be using that line on the wife in a year or two :)

Looking forward to the write-up!!!!!!!!!!

Getting really impatient now! The car was supposed to be getting picked up today but I don't know if it definitely was as I couldn't get any answer from MRC or from the couriers to confirm. If it was picked up I might get it tomorrow or latest Saturday, but otherwise I'll have to wait till next Tuesday for it to be picked up and not get it till next Wed/Thurs!!

Awesome work by the lads at MRC i hope to visit for stage 2 one day and perhaps a charger in the future. Yet to go out in a car thats charged to be converted so will carry on enjoying what i have.
I'm a bit of a pedant on this...
Charge cooler is simy anything that cools incoming air prior to combustion.
Doesn't matter if its air or liquid both are still charge coolers.

You then get three types of charge cooling named based on where they are fitted in relation to forced induction components.
Before cooler (before any turbo/supercharger), inter cooler (between 2 stages if forced induction) and after cooler (after all forced induction).
On road cars almost all charge coolers are of the after cooler type and only once have I seen a true intercooler.

However it's found it's way in common talk for intercooler to mean an air cooled charge cooler and the generic 'charge oiler' to mean liquid cooled.
thanks for clearing that up! only just re read this thread to comment and i have allways gone by the common talk of intercooler being air and charge cooler being water! Charge coolers seem a lot more efficient for day to day use where as a intercooler would suit trackdays more
