Itg purchased

Post by luffenham1 » Sun Oct 14, 2012 2:27 pm

And it starts.

Just purchased my first and not last upgrade for the beast. A pair of itg filters.
Going to fit them myself over this week in an afternoon. I have heard its a pain in ass to do, but fancy a challenge plus I have a friendly garage just down the road if all goes wrong.

I will try and take photos of each stage as I know a few of you are thinking about these filters and fitting them yourselves.

Just one question, when I change the filters and maybe an JC weld fab exhaust should you remap the car due to different gas pressures going through the system?

Filters Fitted in 45 mins. Not all that hard. Forgot to take photos of each stage but to be honest, their is not much too it.

Might be just me but it sounds slightly different but cant tell if the power is any better. Not that you would notice 5-6 BHP extra in these cars

Here we are chris. A brief guide on how to change your filters plus tools needed for the job

Tools needed
1 flat head screw driver
1 Philips screw driver
1 torque screw driver. Size 30
Socket set.

1. Firstly I got the engine slightly warm. This I was told to help release the rubber around the air intakes.

For the rest of the info I will be working on the left hand side of the car, looking at engine. Just repeat to change the right hand side air filter.

2. Undo the torque screw which is centre left of the engine using the torque driver.
3. Undo the top two clips of the air intake as it enters the head so you can just start to move them. It's can take some time to loosen. Don't completely loosen them only as far as you need to.

4. Next loosen the clip down the bottom of the air intake. I used a socket set for this as it is hard to get to.
5. Using a flat head screw driver prise apart the rubber from the air intake on the bottom end ( near headlight).
6. You can now carefully pull back the rubber and lift up the air intake. The two parts should separate.

7. You cannot completely remove the air intake as their is a third connection which is below the air intake half way up which I could not get to due to no room to work in this engine bay.

You do not have to remove the air intake from the top section. It only need to be loose so the air intake can move slightly.

8. Using a Philips screw driver undo the 4 air filter box screws and disconnect the pipe which comes from the box to a side. It's roughly 1 inch black pipe and unclips by sneezing the two grips on the connection and pulling at the same time. Be careful as this is where I got oil over me.

9. Now with the air intake loose and the air box undone you can lift both enough to get the old filter out and new in.

10. Once changed, tighten up air box, then place the 1 inch pipe back, place the air intake back into the bottom rubber and tighten. Tighten up the top clips on the air intake and replace the torque screw.

You can over tighten these clips so remember how tight they where before undoing them at the start.

Repeat on the right side.

Hay presto , all done :biggrin3:

No worries Chris. Have fun putting them in.

Yes there was some crap in the bottom but mainly around the edges ( leaves etc ). Got small fingers so got it all out but a vac would be better.

Trups, if you could take some pictures at each stage that would be great and i will edit my post.

Have fun fitting the filters guys.

Just wanted to pass on my thanks to this thread, I've just put some ITG ones on my car, and with your handy guide it took me all of 10mins per side...very easy!

Many thanks!

Mark.
