Has anyone else...

Post by DavidR » Thu Apr 15, 2004 11:33 am

...noticed an irregularity in the brake pedal under very heavy braking. It feels like a clicking / crunching through the pedal which occurs after the brakes have been used gently for a while and then hard pressure is applied. It happens only when in motion, not stationary and is definately not the ABS.

This was something I noticed with the OEM brakes plus green stuff pads, and thought the pad design may not be perfect and movement may have caused the feel. However, with the Stoptech brake kit fitted the same crunch / click can be felt at times.

I have looked over the brake system myself and got Brian @ star performance to wave his spanners at it, but we can find nothing obvious. Do they all do it? Any suggesstions? Worn suspension bushes??

Cheers!

David

Yes, but I just assumed it was the ABS.

I think its the ABS too.

I have fun with it at wet trackdays because the best braking is just before the ABS cuts in and it certainly lets you know (as you describe) through the pedal when it does !

Hmm. Definately not ABS on my car - distinctly different feel to it. This is a single click / crunch rather than the rapid pulsing of ABS.

Yes, but if the ABS only pulses a couple of times before traction is regained, maybe the result is as you (and I) have experienced?

Sorry lads - Never felt that on mine. But then David as you noticed your calipers were different to my 97 model S4.
