You're proposing a similar approach? 7mm is a big spacer for the caliper. I think I'd prefer a solution for the disc itself.

Finding a replacement bell for the phaeton disc sounds like the better option... Bam? Only thing I dont get is that the Phaeton front discs I have seen do not have a bell which is bolted to the disc. So how does this get swapped over if it's one big unit?
Would the the RS4 B7 disks / hat fit? They look much more like the Phaeton ones than ours do.

At some point you'll have to present an actual disk to your hub to see what needs moving where. A 7mm adapter plate wouldn't particularly bother me, people put more than that on their wheels which suffer much harsher constraints;

Can the disk be mounted on the other side of the hat? Can the caliper be mounted on the other side of the carrier, or both. Maybe by playing with these parameters you might find an ingenious way to get the disks on.

@ Shop, do you remember that user on here that had the blue iodized hats. He had some issues with not having the correct bolts or something. I remember the photo of his setup laid out on a bench.

@ Mule, that photo I posted was from Stumpy's W12 Phaeton disc purchase. Maybe he can comment where he bought them.

It is an interesting approch. I like two piece disc setups.

Good find. I couldn't find that thread :)

Now that I see it, it all comes back.

I vaguely remember the original thread on RS6.Com also.

I remember liking these discs until I saw that the brake pad sweep wasn't enough to stop rust rust showing up on the inner disc surface. Although, I'm sure you could treat this area with 'something'...

Bad on the rear:

Not so bad on the fronts:

I'm liking the blue anodised hats. Perhaps they'll go nice with the Avus paint.

So:

If one uses these discs from JH Motorsport at the next disc change, not only are they cheaper than stock discs (when broght over from the US by brother in law in suitcase), but when they've worn out, I can bolt up some Phaetons?

Sod it; I think I might buy some Phaetons discs and have the hat machined up myself. Cant be that expensive, plus they can be reused. Hell, what about a group buy? I know just the machine Shop...

A group buy has already been atempted, about £250-£300 for the hats IIRC. The last GB geezer needed 10 orders to make it worth while.

These things only work when you invest in a one-of, run them for a while and write it up. THEN people want them, hence that guys criticism. I'll probably get some made when I need to do the front discs.

The JH hat stud patern are unique to their disc. They won't fit the phaeton disc.

Only option going forward is to find someone to moc up and CNC hats to fit a phaeton disc. Make once, then sorted for 'life'.
