Hello SMD, was you on e36coupe.com, seem to recognise your user name, any way.

I had the same three mods carried out, and overall, I noticed a huge difference in performance.

The GruppeM IMHO, is a good mod, it look good and sounds great, some say the there is n performance benefit and you may even loose power, I personally believe that this is not the case and the engine benefits from more air into the engine *exact opposite to an exhaust.

Milltek, Great, but personally I did not really like the finish of the tail pipes, gains can be had, however some say you will loose back pressure due the the engine being NA (hence why I said the engine will benefit from a GruppeM) I may have opened a can of worms by say this ;)

RE-MAP, again NA engines will NOT benefit much from this unless you have carried out major mods, both MRC and APS do Generic remaps, these are the cheaper type and are still OK, I currently have the APS one, MRC also do a stage 2 Remap, where they will adjust your engine accordingly to the mods you have this takes longer, I booked into MRC for the stage too after I have my pipes and cats fitted.

Again a sensitive topic regarding power loss with the induction system, ppl have had different experiences.

I believe that the M3 CSL lost power when fitted with a Gruppem (confirm) however hard to say really as the OEM induction system on the CSL is very simler to size in the GruppeM cant see how or why it would lose performance, any one clarify on this?

Overall I would say if you was to have the inlet manifold job done and the said mods, they would all compliment each other, as per pippyrips car.

just trying to understand MRC remapping
is stage I what you need to get if you haven't changed anything else (exhaust for example), and is stage 2 what most people here got, because they had previously installed other custom parts? is that how it works?

also: how would you compare APS generic remap with MRC generic remap (stage I)?

MRC stage 2 is a custom map from what i've been able to tell. It takes into account things like aftermarket exhausts and air filters. I can't recommend it enough!

Regarding the re-maps. How have people found this affects fuel economy on long runs?

I'm very keen to get above mods at some point and possible re-map. Is it possible to get performance improvement in lower gears whilst maintaining or improving fuel efficiency when cruising in 6th?

I use mine for commuting also so would be reluctant to get the mods and re-map purely for a few extra horses under the bonnet and a bit of extra speed if it has a negative impact on fuel economy..

cheers

I dont think that's correct - a custom map should be preferable over a generic map most of the time but MRC would be able to tell you for sure - they are pretty helpful

They do a generic, custom to fit your mods or the whole nine yards - real time on the road :-). Had this on my B5 S4 and it was the dogs. Also improved my fuel economy and sex drive!

Approx costs for some of the items:

Milltek non-res valved: around £1800 including VAT and fitting
MRC stage 2 remap: around £650 inc. VAT + dyno time

If you're on SW0090 and go for a Milltek then get the 'quiet start mode' with the MRC remap. Your neighbours will appreciate it. My car set off two neighbours' car alarms every time I started it with SW0090 and Milltek. Plus, after I filled up at my local Shell garage a couple of weeks ago, I came back to my car and started it and a people carrier's car alarm at another pump went off. LOL.

I'd also get a decent air filter unless you get one with the Gruppe M airbox.

you mentioned SW0090
is there any merit in checking which software an RS4 has? what are the differences? how do you check it?

SW 90 was to cure rough cold running - I have v 80, which is what all RS4s really should be at least running and no issues with cold running so am not changing to 90.

You can check with VCDS (vag-com) - I wouldn't worry about checking specifically the SW version, in terms of a car purchase

Remember if you have a remap though the 0090 will clear it - as I found out to my shock/horror!
