Maybe the rubbing sound complements the exhaust note somehow?
I took the view that removing the metal must surely be safer than tyres that can be sliced open at any moment.. The side profile pic effectively made up my mind because there is so much thickness in the metal behind. I can't see how the strength could be compromised.
Hell, even RS6Dave said Doug at MRC filed his one down, so if that's good enough for Doug, it's good enough for me.
