I won't insult you, re: 'tool', but is LESS than 0.1%, considerable less...

a man of reason...
road conditions have much to do with it, as I suspect right hand drive does...

US roads are generally good in rural areas, less so in urban...
and of the few DRC failues most have been in the cities...

the shocks face a substantial service duty:
heavy car, assume and average load of 2 ~4400 lbs
60% on front ~1300/wheel, or for a better balanced car ~ 5200 lbs net
add the quattro torque load and large brakes and you get the point...

(Spain scored!!!!!)

add in system complexity, 170 to 200 psi operating pressure and a non-compressible fluid (as opposed to gas shocks) and they will wear faster..
what is an acceptable life span?guys who buy the Stasis sytem have to rebuild annually...

perhaps our expectations are unrealistic to some degree...
PetrolDave wrote:Audi engineers extensively test on German roads - which are (mostly) billiard table smooth so they will not have seen any DRC issues.

The problem isn't engineering, it's the "bean counters" who prevent the engineers from testing under global road conditions to both limit costs and meet (too) tight launch schedules. Ask any engineer working for any European company - they'll tell you exactly the same thing.

UK test site such as Millbrook have roads to simulate Belgian pave and US manholes, so it IS possible to test under global road conditions in Europe - contrary to what the "bean counters" think.

P.S. The shock absorbers on my wife's Skoda need replacing after only 25,000 miles - at least the shock absorbers on my RS4 lasted 44,000 miles...

sims
the DRC system is made by the Japanese, so save your snide remarks for them...
it's made by KYB and bought by Audi (not MADE by Audi), much like tires, glass, seats, instruments, radios, etc.

As an aside, did Audi use UK roads to develop the suspension system for one of their cars?
that's why they are excluded from warranty (until a special one was offered) they are considered a wear/tear item, and Audi has no control over how they are used...or where...
if you blow a tire/bend a rim in a pothole Audi should pay?
whose to say the failures are a result of impulse loading?
I would like to see a correlation between DRC failure and rim replacement, lol

there are many cars with >50k miles with no issues...
normal shocks generally have reached 50% life at 25k miles, and degrade rapidily after that

1. Less than 1% of B7 RS4 cars have DRC failure-Complete utter rubbish, Sorry 'trash'. Do the 'Math'.

2. No amount of clever sums will get away from the FACT that it is 25%+ of all B7 cars that suffer this sub 50k.

3. I know all this yet I will still use this car as Audi have warrantied it well and at the end of the day it is a bloody good car.

Chose not to post on the site for a while due to all the bullshit arguments but generally came by for a lurk now and again. Saw this post and as my DRC appears to have gone south again thought I'd post up the info. Read all the thread and see it has decended into the normal bullshit arguments...........again. So I'll keep it short, sweet and objective.

Car rattling around like a shopping trolley with a stuck wheel. Oversteer turning left, understeer turning right. SS+ fitted but OSR sitting around 1/2 lower than NSR (arch to road) also NSF sitting different height from OSF. Car booked in for 16th for assessment/repair under warranty. Will press dealer on AoA stance to see what Audi UK are saying regards the 4 corner 3G repair. If it's 'no dice' then I guess its the 5Y/75K option and then coilovers.

Will post once any information available. In the meantime you guys can carry on with the 'pissing contest'. Me? I'm off to do something more constructive with whatever time I have left on this planet.

Over and out.

1. LESS than 1%, considerably

Where do you mean? posted where? on the fault log? Your argument is that the failure rate is <1% overall, IN THE WORLD....... is this a new tune we're hearing? It's either that or you are seriously saying that the 133 posts on the fault log are the ONLY ones in the whole world. and that my friend just can not be the case.

It was a 100% no-go three weeks ago when mine packed in again. Indeed, they replaced only one as the other rear one "held a pressure test". I strongly suspect it will be in for the final original shock when it dies soon. They were very apologetic when I suggested the final one might very well go next week and that I was under the impression they should be changed in pairs, but this policy came from Audi UK HQ as they had checked before doing the work.

Where are the FACTS to say it is 25%+? Do you have a report from Audi AG based on an assessment compiled from all the production RS4's that were built by them of how many have DRC failure?

If so please share as I imagine we would all be interested to see the figures.

He's got you there NIKKIrsSIXX!!

I am still curious to know how certain people are so confident that it's it's been proven to be <1% worldwide when all the evidence we do have suggests otherwise.

Sorry not fact my previous post I retract that statement. Blaming 8 pints during World Cup Final.

I still think its a higher number than anyone thinks. I thought they made around 10,000 RS4's so the 133 reported failures here would mean 1%+ at least!
