I bought Darth on heart, it was the second '6 I'd seen and I knew it was looked after, I had a good rapport with the owner. I knew it was driven hard but never put away wet (I'd done my research). However, it ticke most boxes. My original car choice was a 933 but I just couldn't get past the age and the lack of comforts (satnav, heated and most of all space). Then it occurred to me that I'd not be 'sharing' with a 993, it's a small car and there's zero chance of a rugby road trip in it. I still want a 993, I still think it's the mutts nuts. That shape, that sound and that air-cooled sewing machine hanging over the back wheels is all wrong but I still love it. But it'd be a lonely ownership. That's what swayed it. What I did note though, was, there were very few good 993's to choose from and while I was looking, they were appreciating. Strange occurrence but maybe it'll happen the C5 RS5.
I guess we buy these RS6's due their ability to perform almost all tasks, mostly well.
I had a budget of 17k and I would've bought the car I did even if it was posted for more (it was a condition, colour, interior colour, options and sunroof thang). That money for 4.5secs, 5 seats, comforts and build, easy decision. I'm probably not speaking for everyone but I think these cars choose you. If you really want it, you'll pay more. You buy with the heart.
...and then there's circumstances, it's about options, if you have a broad range to choose from, you take your time, if you've few options and little time it's a different story. If you need money fast, you prostitute whatever you're selling for whatever you can get. Surely we all know this.
I know I'm in this for the long haul, I was well aware this was a petrol guzzling, big service bill inducing bruiser. But it seems some people were in love with the idea of owning a '6, but, the actually ownership ain't the dream. So the owners panic and the poor '6 gets sold cheap and the long termers get upset for devaluation. It's the way it is but it won't be like that for long, petrol engines are not long for this world and I know, for one, will miss the f*%k out of them. I'm enjoying it now.
Rant. Over.
If someone is trying to sell too high "tell him he's dreamin'" ....unless it's the last one going.
