Secondary Air Injection System - knackered ?

Hi Guys,

Think my pump has packed up !

17831 - Secondary Air Injection System; Bank 1: Insufficient Flow
P1423 - 35-00 - -
17819 - Secondary Air Injection System; Bank 2: Insufficient Flow
P1411 - 35-00 - -

Is this a problem ? can i run ok without it ?

Any other info? like has it become noiser recently, has there been any related codes before, have both codes just appeared at the same time? Do you get the EML light on?

You can run fine without it AFAIK, as its only used during warm up anyway, in fact a few RS4 owners have ripped the SAI system out completely.

You can test it out manually even when warm by initiating the SAI pump using by measuring block '76' (if I remember correctly)

I wonder if it's just happened, is there perhaps a seperate fuse for the SAI pump?

Yeah, the pump started to get really noisy on start up ! and yes EML on..

So do you think the car will be ok without it ? any tips on stopping the EML ?

Deleted my system, no problems

Mine does that though no MIL.
I am going to crack it and fix it as my pump is new and works well so I suspect the vac pipe from the control valve.
It must be something common to each bank.
Don't you delete guys care about the environment?!
Surely the Euro IV emissions regs that all this cr4p came in because of was drawn up for a reason and not just to fill the time of Brussels bureaucrats and ecomentalists?

Funny, mine doesnt & I pulled the connector on the air pump on mine. If I vag com for engine faults it shows up then.

Not 100% sure, but I think it will only throw the EML on after a few days (of cold starts), rather than just each time the SAI fault is logged.
