Custom Code Results and Vag Com Data for Target Boost Vs Act

Post by Joules » Fri Apr 03, 2009 7:27 pm

All,

RS6 2004

Following my recent post and RR results showing 440BHP in stock form I have had an Custom Code map. The results are as follows.

I was not happy with the Target Boost Vs Actual Boost results. The boost controller has been changed and there has been an improvement but it is still not perfectly tracking target boost with actuals and there are a few counts of knock retardation. This can be easily provoked with WOT in 3rd lift and then WOT again.

These charts are pre-boost controller fitting and I will post the new actuals shortly.

Opinions welcome, perhaps Boost Duty is set a little aggressive.

Ouch, that sort of boost spike won't be doing your gearbox/torque converter/turbos any good!!

The first WOT 3rd gear logged run after changing the Boost Controller produced an initial peak of 1.19Bar which is better but still a little over requested. However cracking the throttle open and closed in 3rd with the turbo spooled got a 1.5Bar spike.

What knock retardation is normal on this mod and do you think this is a duty cycle issue?

Anyone else able to post some plots. Also which Map providers?

FYI, I was able to map a IX EVO to 400BHP with near zero det peak 1.7 and held 1.6 Bar. I am sure this level of control/resolution can be done on an RS6??

OK plots with the new boost controller are much improved in terms of peak boost control but held is a little low with respect to target. I would recommend always changing the Boost Controller (£37) with a remap.

Also plots in 3rd gear WOT then OFF and repeated WOT.

Much improved knock/retardation as follows. Still would like to see other plots and some advice on normal levels under similar loading. For info becuase it is hard to see level is max 1.5.

Are the above plots being generated using Vagcom? If so would be interested to know how as I will go and do some runs and post plots to see how healthy/unhealthy mine is running and of course to provide a comparison

For the ignorant among us, what is "WOT". I'm guessing "Wellie on Throttle" - or something close!

Joules - Do you have a log of a WOT in 3rd from ~3000-redline? Would be interested to see what boost your car is running all the way through

I am away from my PC so cannot check the specific codes. But yes these are from VagCom measuring boost target and actual. Then I also logged retardation on each cylinder.

WOT = wide open throttle

The plot was done to shift points not redline. The latter not needed because the boost backs off anyway. Just do runs WOT from 3rd 3000 rpm. Then to be sure check with the turbo spooled I.e back off whilst still in 3rd high revs and then WOT again. Then check the same log area for retardation values.

VagCom settings to log

Revs
G001

Group 1 - Field 0
Engine Speed - (G28)
/min

For all cylinders, this is just 1

G020

Group 20 - Field 0
Timing Retardation - Cylinder 1
°KW

For target boost = value calc ('x' - 1000)/1000 = bar

G115

Group 115 - Field 2
Boost Pressure - (specified)
mbar

For actual boost ('x' - 1000)/1000 = bar

G115

Group 115 - Field 3
Boost Pressure - (actual)
mbar

Yep, just proves the worth of VagCom. You could be driving around thinking all is well. I actually had one plot showing 630 ft lbs !!! sounds good but crushing torque for the std box and no good long term.
