Buy an RS4 thats a year old - has it been thrashed on several track days? - or just pottered around the M25?

Dunno which is worse..... What does it matter that a car has done track days? These cars are designed to be driven hard.

Obviously a new car is always going to compare badly to a year old machine, but you are buying it new, so you get to spec it and, particually important to my mind when it comes to performance cars, you know how its been driven. Buy an RS4 thats a year old - has it been thrashed on several track days? - or just pottered around the M25?

Also the new S4 is 344hp - 70 odd up on the original version and not that far shy of the RS4.

No turbo, fair enough but then there are downsides to forced induction (flexibility, turbo life etc) also it gives Audi a chance to produce a 450 hp "New" RS4 in about 18months time (if there is enough room in the engine bay)

How do you thrash somthing that been designed to be driven like a racear.... Please do not think you gott treat them with kid gloves...otherwise they will turn around a bit you in the Ass...let them know whos boss
Cheers

the loves a bit of thrash, you only have to worry about tyres, brake pads and the fuel bill

The wheels are designed so that under heavy impact, to the point where the tyre is compacted, the wheel will deform. This then causes a vibration in the steering, alerting the driver to get vehicle examined. The risk here is that the tyre may have been damaged. If the wheel(s) is/are deformed, then Audi UK will gladly fit new replacements, for free, under the lifetime warranty on the wheels.

I've only had 6 in 40k miles. Nice to get a new set of rims every now and then .

funny that Phil, when i was looking recently (sorry dreaming) I would of preferred a car without the harder wheel 'upgrade' - blimey its like a real plus feature now - new wheels for life!

I've got a test drive of the new S4 booked with my dealer.. not going to buy one but want to see what that 4.2 V8 is like on a manual box.. it was superb in my S6 and I bet it's even better now.

The chassis is supposed to be a step up too from the older A4 set up..I know a lot of you guys have changed the suspension to your likeing.. but for those who had original S4's there may be a difference. It'll be interesting to see what it's like.

I do agree that 44k for an S4 does seem a lot.. would make the next RS4 around £55,000.. which isn't far off RS6 prices.. it'll probably out perform it until the next V10 RS6?

Audi UK don't seem to be learning re: prices, do they?? Eg. the price of the front armrest = £110 ex vat Import price is half that..

The only thing that really annoyed me was that the car doesn't come with full leather, (only half leather /cloth) and its an £880 extra .

The S4 is not well equipped next to it's obvious rival the BMW M3 which comes with Leather, PDC and Metalic paint as standard £1600 approx on the Audi - but then again it doesn't have a tailgate either.

I doubt Audi are that bothered by the import prices as the strengthening of the euro has made imports 10% "more expensive" over the last year or so - once the difference between UK and import gets to less than about 2-3K -the incentive to import dissapears due to all the potential hassles

Nick,
I was going to part/ex my S3 for it, but some FXXker stole it three weeks ago (has since been recovered - now a write off)

Mind me asking what happened to your S3? did they take the keys and what damage was done? Just curious

My S3 was stolen using the "fishing rod" thru the letterbox trick, now I knew about this so every evening I took my keys upstairs, unfortunately they nicked it at between 7 and 9pm in the evening! (Yes I was in the house, and heard nothing - I've had to sack my dog as well!)
