18 months on and I'm back with another :)

Post by Overlord » Fri Dec 05, 2008 9:56 pm

Hi All,

Back around xmas 2006 i bought my first RS4, loved it but for many reasons had to sell. Now after a short and boring (car wise) leave i am back, another child in the ranks and definately in need of an estate. So i found and bought an Avus Silver avant on a Y plate. I must say i have missed the power and ride quality.

I am having some issues with it though and perhaps someone can help.

The car is 100% stock, sometimes it goes like a scalded cat, others it seems to have little or no boost, i have used the search button and sort or narrowed it to either MAF, DV's sticking or perhaps and EGT sensor gone, i dont have access to VAGCOM, anyone in the West Midlands that has?? and have i missed something thats obvious.

Also are there any independents in the West Mids?

Its nice to be back :)

Your symptoms make it sound like a EGT sensor. Could be MAF, but doubt that would make it intermmitent.

Good to hear your back with another B5! Enough said!

Sounds like its dropping into limp mode. Get down to MRC to get it checked out and repaired (and remapped!)

Thanks for that. The engine check passes as OK, but i guess it can still log a DTC. I will speak to a pal who may have access to VAGCOM.

A friend had this with his B5 S4 and it turned out to be sticking wastegates on the turbos.
Only fix was replacement of the turbos.....
Just can't get the smile off my face......

its an electric valve that controlls boost, if it snot working right then you at worst will only be running around 7psi which is the actuator pressure. change those 4 parts and the car will fly.promise

I have found a local indy and will be booking it in next week, i take it the N75 is basically a re named boost control solenoid then.

Thanks for the advice :)

I would guess not unless theres a sensor that monitors it. The Volvo's suffer with these too and i have seen a few blown engines, so as a matter of course i will change it. I guess they are under £80 anyway.

Thanks for the help guys, its appreciated.
