VCDS - RNS-E
Hi Folks,
Having difficulty in getting the VAGCOM to communicate with the RNS-E setup in my 2007 RS4, hopefully someone can shed some light?
I've tried the following;
17-Instruments
10-Adaptation
63-21
Even after all that, I still cannot access either 37-Navigation or 56-Radio.
I'm using a full VCDS Hex+Can+Dual-K cable which is bought from Ross-tech. Latest software version 805.1 and the RNS-E is on SW0060.
Unit is original with the car. Ideas? TIA.

RE: VCDS - RNS-E
Very strange
Obviously your RNS-E is working/functioning?
And have you tried to access other modules, i.e. engine, ABS, etc?

Re: VCDS - RNS-E
If you have SW0060 in your RNS-E then it's a pretty old unit, which would imply that it wasn't factory fitted. In that case you must have fitted a wiring adapter to convert from the ISO connectors of the OE radio to the Quadlock of the RNS-E. I would guess that the K-line is not correctly connected in the wiring adapter (a pretty common fault in these adapters).primus2211 wrote:I'm using a full VCDS Hex+Can+Dual-K cable which is bought from Ross-tech. Pinouts are on labels on the top of the RNS-E and the OE radio.

Strange...hmm...the car comes with the "7Q2" option though which indicates factory fitted satnav unit. No matter, time to get dirty and start yanking things out!PetrolDave wrote: If you have SW0060 in your RNS-E then it's a pretty old unit, which would imply that it wasn't factory fitted

Virdee Autos,
Yup, did a full scan, everything else works except for the RNS-E. Got me stumped as well but guessing by PetrolDave's comment, might be worth the effort to pull the unit to have a look at the wiring.
Thanks for the feedback!

Sounds like you might have mis-typed 0060 instead of 0600 then...primus2211 wrote:Strange...hmm...the car comes with the "7Q2" option though which indicates factory fitted satnav unit. Ooopss...you're right, the version is actually SW0600. Thanks for the correction. In that event, any idea what could be the problem? Still wiring?PetrolDave wrote:Sounds like you might have mis-typed 0060 instead of 0600 then...

Re: VCDS - RNS-E
Since we know it's a factory fitted unit then I reckon that leaves two possibilities (the K-line must have been connected for them to code the RNS-E at the factory):primus2211 wrote:In that event, any idea what could be the problem? Still wiring?
1)the K-line (which is used for diagnostics) has become disconnected or broken between the diagnostics socket and the RNS-E; or
2) the RNS-E has become faulty.
First thing I would do is pull the RNS-E and with a multimeter check the resistance between the K-line pin of the RNS-E (see the paper label on the top of the RNS-E for the pinout) and the L-line on the diagnostics socket. Yes, that's right the K-line of then RNS-E connects to the L-line and not the K-line at the diagnostics socket.
