Oh well fun while it lasted.
Be interested to know what the smoke was all about if anyone knows.

Most B7 RS4's dump a load of smoke out of the back when being driven really hard too..... well mine does anyway.theaxe wrote:Seriously though, not sure on the smoke. Loads of fuel being dumped into the engine when he floored it?
Of course the power to weight has an impact & the M5 Saloon is about 250KG heavier than the RS4 Saloon, but i'm sorry to say the M Division always somehow have the edge when it comes to overall driving dynamics, gearboxes & engines. Now don't get me wrong, having owned an E60 M5 for the best part of a year, i overall prefer the RS4 i have now as in this country i believe it's the most complete package for a performance saloon, however when the conditions mean that Quattro is of little or no advantage, the superior chassis & engine of the BMW's win through.al'srs4 wrote:I know the beenie wagon has 100 more horses in tow. But surely the power to weight ratio means the RS/M5 are very similar.
Interestingly the new RS6 has buckets more hp than the RS4, but in an outright drag to 60, the RS6 is only 4.6 secs, (.2) difference.
Which makes that M3 Board video a little suspect....but then again, when have you ever seen a BMW lose in a video on a BMW board?!BTW I had a bit play with a new M3 last week and even swapping positions there is little in it in acceleration terms, neither of us were losing ground on the other from 50mph onwards. And this was a convertible with their new flappy paddle box.
Actually, while we don't get rain in Dubai much, the dusty roads have seen quite a few RWDs outW8PMC wrote:Of course the power to weight has an impact & the M5 Saloon is about 250KG heavier than the RS4 Saloon, but i'm sorry to say the M Division always somehow have the edge when it comes to overall driving dynamics, gearboxes & engines. BMW have won the engine of the year awards for the last few years in both petrol & diesel. For the last 2 years it was the V10 in the M5/6 for petrol & this year it's that peach of a bi-turbo 6-pot.
Trade off is that in less than perfect road/weather conditions, the RS4 will easily have either car (M3 & M5) licked as it's so difficult to push either even to 50% of their limits in the wet. As i live in the UK with less than favourable weather, the RS4 is the better on the road offering, but it's certainly not quicker/better then the M Divisions finest, just a better all round proposition for the UK.
Worth noting though that in total stock form, the M5 Saloon is a good £15K more expensive than the RS & with the must have options that's more like a £25-30K difference. An exceptional 2nd hand buy though at the moment.
If i lived in Dubai or California, then i'd take the M5 all day long, but would struggle to like the M3 given it's image
