Doesn't matter - it's just a question of how you plug the lead into the laptop (serial or USB).

The KEY-COM is perfectly adequate for the RS6 (as it doesn't support CAN).

However, although I understand the serial version gives slightly more accurate results, not many laptops have a serial interface these days and if your USB port has broken, how long before the serial port (or the laptop) gives up?

Sorry to hear about the laptop, Greg.

Just bear in mind that if you do go down this route, then you'll be lucky if it works with your next laptop (ie only if the next laptop has a serial port)

i'd go with serial - even if your later PC/laptop doesn't have a serial port, serial to USB convertors are common

Yep, I have a converter for this very reason. It slows the communication rate down but it still works well.

Go for the serial lead.

Ross Tech don't recommend using a USB to serial converter.

If you do use one and you have problems they will NOT give you any support.

The sensible buy is a HEX-USB+CAN.
