Cold rev limit

Post by caldy » Sat Mar 15, 2008 8:58 am

Having had my car re-mapped by Jeroen at JDE, included was a lowering of the cold running upper rev limit to 4,000 rpm. However, the Driver Info Display still reads 7,000 rpm. Any clever techies out there know how to change the reading?

If you do change the reading, the Service team will know you've tampered, beware; the germans are puting more "Feedback INFO" into there cars now, this info is accessed once the car is coupled to the computer systems @ said service centre. This can lead too lost warrantee.
Be careful.

Not seen any way of doing it. I reckon it's "hard coded" into the instrument cluster.

Cold rev limit

The service team are going to know anyway when the engine bounces off the rev limiter at 4,000 rpm!

I like the idea though of lowering it to 4000RPM, still enough power if you need it anyway and much kinder to a cold hunk of expensive metal.

The engine is so 'revvable', even when cold, that it is surprising how often you reach the 4,000 rpm limit although trying to be careful.

Why have it lowered? Surely its easier to just drive the car under a chosen limit when its cold?

Got to be honest i have no problems keeping the revs low when cold. That said if i were having it mapped anyway why not :D

I thought the 7,000rpm rev limit was purely an advisory message on the DIS rather than a physical rev limiter. Obviously I've never felt the need to check this. I'm sure that I read it in the handbook but I can't be bothered going out to the garage to check right now.............could be wrong.

I assume that you have tried out the 4,000rpm limiter since having it re-mapped.

The 7 k limit does cut the power and the 4k limit JD Eng sets it at works too, although he will set it to any limit you want.

I've asked to have that limiter set at 5000rpm as 4000rpm can be reached quickly.... but 7000rpm is really too high OEM...
