Uprated rear diff mount - anyone interested in a GB??
Uprated rear diff mount - anyone interested in a GB??
This has just been released .... http://www.axismotorsport.com/shop/apik ... -p-74.html
Looks like a nice peice of kit - I wonder how it compares to a new OEM mount price-wise and it will fit both S4 & RS4 by the looks of things.
Post if you have the slightest interest in one of these - once I've got a rough idea of numbers I'll approach Axis to see what discount we can get.

I believe so, that's what causes the clunking and drivetrain movement when you lift off the throttle or change gear! Are the standard ones a weak point then? Do they wear?

the stock mounts are desinged to move a lot to stop the shock from diff play going through the car.
I think someone should try before you buy - the more rigid gearbox and engine mounts ruin comfort in the car.

I agree 100% Doug - I wouldn't want any vibrations! I'll do some research on AW to see if anyones got them fitted yet.I think someone should try before you buy - the more rigid gearbox and engine mounts ruin comfort in the car.

Also available from these guys .... http://www.avalonmotorsports.com/index. ... cts_id=169 and was available in Oct at a discounted price of $219.
Trouble is, I have read a few reports of vibrations .... http://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/2732783.phtml and here ... http://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/2727234.phtml
Doesn't look very promising, even though they state they have tried it on 6 cars with no problems.

I always meant to simply shim the gap in the rear mount before selling my B5. It would take approx 1hrs work to remove and shim the mount with some 3mm to 5mm thick small strips of flat bar or plate.
The mount/rubber is so soft it takes up the full slack by simply letting out the clutch. Given this I would be very surprised if vibration resulted. I have my old mount still in the garage. A new one made no difference to the clunk on changing gear. I'll see if Brooner is up for some experimentation.
Save your money and try the shim option first. I was going to simple screw the shims in place to see how it worked. If detrimental (highly unlikey) I would simply remove.
Have a look and you'll see for yourself what I'm talking about.
