I thought Cosworth only worked on the RS4 version?

The 2.7T engine is an awesome bit of kit, totally over engineered by Audi/Cosworth
Audi designed it to start with then Cosworth fettled it later in lfe for the RS

The only thing Cosworth did was improve the casting technique on the cylinder heads on the RS4. Urban myth says the designed the heads...

Cosworth were more than consulted on the RS4 heads, they also made the heads and at least assembled the first years worth of RS4 engines (4,000). These were asembled in the UK, just down the road from me.

The RS4 heads are made using Cosworths patented casting technology at their Worcester forging facility.

The heads were machined in Hungary, sent back to the UK where the engines were assembled then sent to Germany for the cars to be assembled.

Cosworth Technology also worked with Audi on the RS4s brake system and specified the fueling components and turbocharger systems amongst other items.

This was the first time Audi publicly named Cosworth Technology as a technology partner, although the two companies had been working in conjunction on various projects in the past.

Now you know why the S4 engine is so good..... and why Audi bought Cosworth from Vickers.

Also why Mahle bought them from Audi....guess who makes the pistons used in the 1.8T, 2.7T?

Exactly how much Cosworth did for the RS4 engine is totally irrelevant. This post is about the S4, and Cosworth had no involvement there.

Audis aluminium block V6 was designed and developed by Cosworth back in 95.

The same engine block that is used in the S4.

If it is an automotive aluminium casting and very high quality its pretty much a dead certainty Cosworth are responsible for it.

Sorry Kevin but the only alloy V6 block Audi have is the 3.0 30v, all 2.4 2.8 and 2.7s are cast iron. And I also stand by the other's statements about Cosworth's involvement in the RS4 engine development, and lack thereof in the S4 engine.

Sorry, you are correct it was the V6 cast iron block Cosworth did for Audi in 1995.
