Fitting RS4 intercoolers?

Post by h8cak » Wed Nov 07, 2007 12:51 am

I have just purchased a pair of rs4 ic's. I have the original rs4 pipe work and the original S4 pipes. My question is will either of these fit my s4 of will i need to get special pipes? and is there anything else i will need to get these on my S4?
Cheers

Do you have an APR bi-pipe? If so, you'll need APR pipes to go from the coolers to the bi-pipe.

And if not an APR bi-pipe? Can the RS4 pipes be utilised?

Which RS4 pipes are you talking about?, the ones below the sump from the turbos? or the alloy ones that go to the TB ?

If it is the lower ones then only the drivers side is different on the RS4, it is longer to bring the outlet closer to the intercooler, the passeger side is the same as the S4, they are all the same diameter 50mm.

all 4 RS4 Intercooler outlets/inlets are 63mm.

I have not seen the RS4 and S4 and APR bi-pipe together to see the difference in length but the inlet diameters are 57mm on the S4 and bi-pipe and 63mm on the RS4. (the Bi-pipe is a direct replacement for the S4 plastic pipes so is the same diameter).

You will need hoses to suit from the RS4 intercoolers, straight 63mm at the top hoses if you have the RS4 TB pipes. The lower ones will be step down 63mm to 50mm

RS4 hoses cannot be used although they are the right diameter they are too long as the intercoolers on the RS4 sit further out in the bumper.

your RS4 intercoolers will fit if you have the RS4 rubber intercooler pipes..BUT..you will need to use a very small piece of the S4 rubber intercooler pipes as a sleeve as the RS4 rubber intercooler pipes are bigger for the S4 inlet pipework..HTH

I don't have brackets at all, the pipes seem to keep in place, saying that i got some damage on one side from the knocking about.

the driver side bracket dont fit cos of the air con canister..but you can fit the passenger side RS4 bracket ok..well drill out pop rivits and bolt it in place..otherwise like kies said the pipes will hold them in place..if you go that route then i,d atleast try and fit a small bracket to the side of the intercoolers to stop any undue vibrations..

I got the can mounted as it was banging against my i/c, which is obviously causing a air flow restriction on the back side too ...

see if I can take some pics tomorrow as its in bits ....

Heres some snaps, I used the original s4 can bracket to attach to the rs4 ic mounts, the captive stud in the old bracket is holding it to the upright arm(underneath) of the ic mount, its then had a bit of forming, used 2 of the ic jubilee clips, its nice an tight .... gives flow through the ic ... stops more rattles .. :audibash: HTH
