Sat Nav disc copy

Post by tartan_rob » Wed Oct 31, 2007 8:07 pm

If I was going to take a back-up copy of my 2007 sat nav disc (for example), what would I need to do it? apart from the obvious dual layer DVD writer?

Can it be done and if so what type of discs? I have tried DVD-R DL and they don't work.

I use DVD shrink to copy DVD's, not sure if it will work with a sat nav disc. You can download it free if you google it.

Might be worth a try!! :D

The EU sat nav disc has a weird copy protection scheme. You can only make copies with certain drives, certain software and certain media - there's some (very) long posts on www.navplus.us

Expect to make lots of coasters!

I think DVD shrink gets past most copywrites, i've yet to encounter something it hasen't got past!!

Mind you there is always a first time..

despite what people say, there is no copy protection

-the disk is larger than 4.5gb, and most copy software gets the layer break wrong so the disks dont work
-the reader is fussy and will often only read verbatim dvd+r dual layer disks or disks using the same media type
-you dont need to copy at 1x or 2x - i have tried verbatim upto 8x and it works fine as long as the media is rated at that speed

what you need is:
a copy of clonecd - to get the layer break write
a pioneer dual layer dvd writer - i've tested an a07, a08. dvd109 and 110 models all with success
verbatim 8.5gb dvd+r genuine media - dont waste your money on other stuff, it wont work properly

good luck

Okay, I have the clone Cd software, my pioneer DVD writer and the verbatim dvd and nothing, it still fails. The DVD looks good, insert it and the sat nav unit says the disc is not comaptible with the audi sat nav.

Any ideas?

i tried about 12 different media types and any mkm 001 worked at 1x or 2.4x and any mkm 003 worked at 8x write without any problems at all

which pioneer writer are you using?

Yep. DVD +r and pioneer 112d.
I can create the image with dvd decrypter but then I get an error when trying to write it, the actual copy button is disabled and the status bar says "Device not ready, Incompatible Medium installed".

I saved the image as ISO..

Any ideas? This is driving me mental.

Saw a post on www.navplus.us that says to copy the sat nav DVD you need a region free DVD writer (RPC1 firmware).
