An email blast went out today - Had a number of responses, so thanks to all so far.

Sent as requested. Mine failed and after 2 weeks of playing around and £2.5K of labour, it still feels like I'm driving a blancmange!

DRC - Dreaded Ride Control

Post by Fake » Tue Jul 10, 2007 7:33 pm

In response to the DRC survey, I add my two pennies...

In April last year I sold my WRX privately. In June I paid a £1500 deposit on an RS6 at Huddersfield Audi, the same day that the car appeared on their website (I can prove this). I was

During the test drive however, there was a loud "clunk" from the left hand rear side, and the ride was appaling (Puzzled faces, scratchy heads, damaged alloys; surely not the first time?).

I checked this site and realised there was a serious issue. Not being in a position to waste money, or pay for toy I cannot use, I requested my deposit back.

"We don't refund deposits" was the cry, then the sales manager intervened and refunded it (Thank You). I since realise the previous owner of this car must have been fed up with it, and was trying to dispose. After this issue the car was removed from sale, and I have not seen it since!

I have continued to follow the saga on this forum in case there is a cure, but replacing the DRC with shock absorbers surely raises serious insurance issues, and if it was that simple, would it not have been considered by Audi from the outset?
The fact is you need to be able to contol a 2380 kilogram, 450bhp Bucking Bronco so the idea was sound.

Result: Another customer lost to DRC.
I have since bought an STi spec. d (discreet). Faultless & Fabulous.

Hardly the same though, is it (a Subaru)?

I doubt my insurers would/will bat an eyelid when the time comes - they were chosen with tuning in mind. I was concerned about the weight of the car but having spoken to a few people with experience I'm happy it will be OK.

I'm going to go for KW variant 3 rather than PSS9 when its time and I have a quote of £1,500 fitted which is less than it cost to fit them to my track car. At 60k+ miles as mine will be by the time I fit them I expect any car would benefit from new suspension. I certainly bought the RS6 knowing full well about the DRC issues and having a plan to avoid them in mind (and buying a cheaper car without the Audi warranty as it sounds worthless if they can't execute a proper fix with OE parts). £1,500 is not nothing, but to be honest it's a manageable cost for anyone who can afford to own an RS6.

Just a couple of things to note:
The RS6 is 1.86 tonnes.
You've been lucky with the STi, there are many reported failures of rear struts. Search for "clonk" on SN.

Point taken Rupert, 1860kg, all up gross is still 2380kg. Not trying to compare Subaru to Audi, (I wanted one!)I am saying its putting people off buying, that hurts residuals.
Rather go to Subaru with leaking shock than Audi.....

Calm down Mr Mug ;)

I agree, this topic should be kept to DRC feed back via Phil.

Lets keep the "off topic" chat to another page so this doesn't turn into a 20 page topic about everything, like the other one :D

Ps. Chuffin heck? ? ?

You do make me laugh, don't think you could've said it any better :D :D

:jump:

Just don't run for MP ;)

DRC Ethical or unethical dilemma

Post by FlyRS6 » Thu Jul 12, 2007 7:55 pm

How can I tell if my 6 has a problem? Do you think I'd get away with winging it with Audi and ringing to say car feels like suspension problem and have it checked free whilst still under warranty? is that unethical?
